Currently the list is ... well... a list. But what is trying to be done is to work out from that list a definitive list of the finest titles, and we're working on it for a couple of weeks with an accumalative grading from members. It saves people every so often asking for recommendations (which get pretty tedious).

Hopefully everyone will understand and participate if they can.

Nope, we decided not to limit the titles to only those that are available on DVD.

To anyone who's still confused, basically, what we are trying to do is come up with a list of the greatest HK films. Now, we're being a bit ambitious & including a @@@@ load of titles in the list, so I thought it would be best if we just started by making a list of Kung Fu films & asking the good people of the forums to vote on the films they have watched!
IUt doesn't matter if you've only seen one title on the finished list, every vot counts!
When the voting is done, I'll collate the results & hopefully we'll be left with the definitive kung fu list!!!

Obviously, some titles won't get enough votes to warrant it's place in the list, so the original list you'll vote on will br long, but the final list should be a lot shorter.

If the Kung Fu list gets a good enough response, then we'll do another list, fo another genre!

Thanks for all the work you guys are putting into this-it's nice to see my original suggestion on the other thread taking off , even though I haven't sufficiently wide knowledge to be able to contribute.

Can I make one suggestion? There's the problem of good (but obscure) vs. popular and widely seen titles. Many of us have a knowledge that falls in between the two-i.e. we've seen many of the usual suspects, but would welcome a few lesser known suggestions. One solution might be to have two lists. One list is complied via votes from any interested members-this should give a good indication of titles that most people on the forums consider reliable recommendations for newbies. The other list might be compiled exclusively by experts like yourselves who have a much broader knowledge and which is less likely to be biased towards the well-known titles. It might be useful not to reveal the latter list until the more 'populist' list is compiled.

The traditional list:

Thanks Shingster - the Hwang Jang Lee list has me fairly stumped... I confess I haven't seen two thirds of them. In fact, the ones from the list that I have seen range from average to awful (Tiger Over Wall... urgh. Still worth the 1.50 I paid in Cash Converter though :D ) Hwang is always better than the material in those bad flicks, though I wouldn't want to recommend them to a beginner.

Aside from his Jackie films and his great turn in Sammo's Shanghai Express, my faves from him were always the aforementioned Invincible Armour and Hells Wind Staff, which I would recommend without hesitation.

I would also like to second the Shaw Bros lists on the previous page. Looking down those lists - which I understand was only a tiny proportion of their output - you realise that the ones that filtered over to us on video in the eighties were uniformly excellent.

Also, can I suggest for the traditional list
One Armed Boxer 2!
