I have a pair of Mission 701s as fronts and a 70C1. They are great, and for richers price they are great. The 700's would be fine for rears as The 701s only have a larger volume and bass driver (700s have enough bass for rears).
Pros = Great sound, front ported so can be placed close to walls, sound good with cheap amps and great with more expensive amps. Also the 70C1 integrates well with the 701s. If you have Mission fronts form the same range then you should be fine.
Cons = Old range; 70C1 does not look very good with the grill off (as it is just the board with the speaker attached).
Overall they are the best speakers for the money (with the price richers have them for).
Hope this helps

Yeah. Helps a lot. You not got any rears then?
I've been looking at the Eltax Bi polar HT2's for rears, but my front is gonna have to be the mission 70c1 as I've heard a few bad reviews for the Eltax centre speaker.
Is it best to stick to same manufacturer all round then if possible?
£170 for 701's, 700's and 70c1 is very impressive.
Going for the Kenwood 5050 to go with them.
I am not sure what price you will be able to get on the 70c1, but I chose to go for a Tannoy MXC to compliment my M73s up front. The MXC has twin mids and a centre mounted tweeter. A lot of people at the time were concerned over the lack of 'beef' with the 70c1. In the end I got the MXC for a good price (70) so I discounted the 70c1 as a result. I would advise an audition of both if you can with the Mission fronts.

Been reading a few more reviews and wondering about this set up.
Getting two sets of 701's for front and rear.
Any pros/cons to having same speakers for front and rear?

I have the Ariston (£10) rears from richers at the moment (student budget not too big) although they will soon be Wharfdale Cubes (due to my bedroom being re-done and the Aristons not fitting). I wanted the Mission 70s but again they are too big so I will have to make do.
Just a though for the fronts. Richers have the 702e (floor standers )for £99 so if the budget would reach then they would add more bass and completely negate the need for a sub.
702e, 700 and 70c1 for £210 which is great so value but the 701s would also do a good job.
Sticking to one manufacturer helps with sound matching and also helps it look good (the 700 series looks good as well). If possible try to get an audition at richers. If your local store is as nice as mine they will be helpful and show you the different speakers with the amp of your choice.
If you do want the same speaker front and back there is no prob at all as most 5.1 packages use the same fronts and rears.

Thanks Millec. Reason I ask is that some people have been saying the 700's and 701's sound slightly different, so I figured if I got two sets of 701's I'd be sorted.
702e's are very tempting but I got no room in my bedroom for floor standers.
Thanks for the help.

I use 701's as my main speakers and a 77c1 (newer, more expensive model) and the sound is great. Your correct about the Eltax centre, it's naff, (used to have one). Considered upgrading my 701 to 702e's but the sales droid actually recommended not bothering as the 702 is just a 701 with a built in stand (the bottom half of the cabinet isn't used). Get the 701's and you'll be more than happy but don't forget something to put them on ;) . I'd recommend 700's for the rear as a pair of 701 with DD or DTS will be to overpowering in a small room.

Thanks. My brain is about fried but I've come to a decision. 701's for fronts and 700's for rears.
Not to sure on the centre still yet though, for as many good reviews I read about any of the mission centre speakers, I read the same amount bad.

Though unfortunately the sales droid was wrong. While the bottom half of the cabinet is not 'open' as such it does increase bass handling, making the 702e's more 'cinema friendly' speakers.
Sticking to one manufacturer helps with sound blending, but different ranges of speakers from the same manufacturer sound different, so it isn't a hard and fast rule. What is important is to match the tonal characteristics of the speakers. For Tannoys are widely acknowledged as being similar in character to Missions and therefore will always give a reasonable if not excellent tonal match.

Just. Whats the quality of the mxc centre like then? Has it got plenty off beef and clarity?
I got my amp yesterday and hooked up an old sony 25 watter as centre. It sounded ok but lacked bass. So I put one of my front pioneer 100 watters as centre and it sounded amazing.
The biggest thing I've learned so far is that dont scimp on your centre speaker as I would say its the main one. When you swap from turning the centre speaker off to on it adds a whole new dimension.
My main point of this post(incase u hadn't guessed) is that I want to purchase a very nice clear and beefy centre speaker.
Recomendations after Just's please.

Hi,
regarding Mission:
I've had a pair of 734'4 for over nine years now as main speakers and the sound from them is just beautifull :)
never had a problem
Conn
The Mission 700 series is on the whole pretty good. Especially at the price Richer are doing them for. The one thing I will say is that it is very important that you choose the amp to go with them VERY carefully. The Mission 700s are very direct, in your face sounding speakers. If the amp is the same then it will sound very tiring and irritating. I believe that the 5050 is supposed to be a little bright on the treble and woolly on the bass so I would tread carefully matching this amp and these speakers together. Audition before buying! Anyone here able to comment on the Kenwood 5050?

Yeah me. Sounds awesome for the £150 I paid for it. And thats when I'm only running 8 watt speakers as rears, can't wait to get some mission 700's.
