I know it's sad but I've just seen my first trailer for this film. It seems to be a rip off of Alien and Aliens.
Is it any good ? and is the R1 DVD RCE ?
It's not really an Aliens clone - it's all a bit metaphysical for that. While it has elements of many SF films, it actually manages to be slightly original from time to time. It's not a bad film on a superb double disk set. The animation is excellent and I look forwards to seeing where the animators go next.
The disk IS RCE, but I've not had any trouble playing it on my PS2, or on my unmodified region 2 SD2109!!!!
I've reviewed it HERE (http://www.electronicreality.co.uk/reviewpage.htm) if your interested mate
It's very good. I don't know why it was slated. It's quite intelligent and the animation is incredible. I actually forgot to be amazed eventually and thought I was watching a real film. Mind you Alec Baldwin looks a lot slimmer in this!!

Agree, never saw it at the cinema, but was pleasantly surprised when I watched it for the first time on DVD. The animation is just breath taking. Could this be the end for actors??? :p
The openeing 20 minutes were very good IMHO.

Aren't they queueing up at the dole office???????.
AFAIK, the animation studio/Square pictures were shut down due to the terrible takings of FF at the box office. Which is a real shame as i thought the film was ace and should have done better.
I thought the animation on Sid was particularly impressive, it was him (IMO) that stood out as the best, performance wise. I liked the phantoms too.
I also think Aki would make a great Head & Shoulder's spokesperson;)
As for it being an Alien/s rip off i would have to disagree. Sure i guess the phantoms could be classed alongside the Aliens in terms of menace and threat, but there is a totally different story throughout.
I believe this is an RCE encoded disc. It's my first RCE disc, I have tried it one 3 players a Samsung 807, Phillips 701 and a cheap JCB and it plays fine on all three.

I do know for definite that the animation studio that made Titan AE was folded but haven't heard Square being canned. Sure you haven't got the two mixed up....hope you have as I too was interested in what they might do next.

last I heard was a bit confusing.
The company HAS folded I believe - Sony has pulled the plug.
But, I also heard the animators were all working on another project, but don't know what.
Sorry if that's a bit grey, but there you go!
Squares studios in haven't been closed down, they just make stuff for other people know, it cost summat like $165 million to make and only took $43 million worldwide.
The new Final Fantasy Unlimted anime is much, much better though.

Oh ah, I briefly saw this mentioned on a website. What's it like? Is it CGI again?
Its both cell based and CGI, alot of the effects are mainly CGI, if you liked the games then you will love the series.

Suprizingly enough I've never played or even seen any screen-shots of the games!
Then you probably wont get the most out of the anime, theres some screen shots of FFU in the new PSM2 magazine (the one with Devil May Cry on the cover)

Ah rite, I'll have to check it out :)
What are the games like? Ive heard they're kinda like rpg/role playing stuff.
Yeh they are Role Playing Games, best being FF7, FF:TSW's actual FF-esque moments are mainly from FF7 and one from FF9, both worth playing if you like that sort of game or are just after a good storyline (which 7 has the best of all 9 games).
Don't know about you but I though Aki looked the least impressive of the animated characters?

I quite enjoyed Final Fantasy.. I've been a fan of FF7 on PSX (i have FF8 but haven't properly played it yet, am waiting till my friend and i finish FF7), and the graphics in the games have always impressed me.
It seemed to me that there was a hint of Alien/Aliens in the film, but not a direct rip-off, more of a familiar feeling, like they were trying to make the viewer feel comfortable with the plot line. (am i the only person who has trouble finding out what the plot of FF7 is? I'm sure all the game dialog makes sense in Japanese, but some of it doesn't make sense in English..lol)
I spent half the movie trying to figure out who did the voice of Sid, until it finally clicked: Donald Sutherland!!

talking about the games...
FF6 for the SNES is supposed to be the best of the series.
i tried it and has been great so far. had to stop cos of exams though, might start up again.
got some good features like special moves requiring a special combination of buttons.
The problem i have with the games is the time you have to commit to them. I bought FF7 and never got round to completing it because i could only play it sporadically. And i always found i would forget where the story was going and what i was doing which proved a real pain when i would try and get back into it.
I really wanted to play FF8 but i knew i had loads of Uni work to do and that ultimately it would just be a waste of money. The good thing about the DVD is that it's over within 90 minutes.;) :D
