I was looking in Amazon for Blue Planet on DVD and noticed there was a Blue Planet IMax DVD...then noticed there were others, which was quite a shock to me! I assume you have to wear those silly glasses like you do in the Imax theatres!
Has anyone tried these and do they lose anything on the small screen?
Best in the DVD and Movie Discussion Forum I think http://members.tripod.co.uk/nickhorton/GreenSmilies/**********

Obviously, there's no way you can possibly reproduce the IMAX experience on DVD, so they're more effective as souvenirs than anything else.
On that score, Everest (which I've reviewed here) is rather good, offering loads of extras including an account of making the film that's a fair bit more gripping than the film itself!
And Super Speedway is still many people's DVD demonstration disc, if only for the sound!

Thanx, I checked out the review. Whilst it sounds impressive I gather it won't be in 3D?

Everest never was in 3-D, so that's not an issue.

Worth mentioning that the aspect ratio of IMAX is 4:3, so they're not going to look fantastic on your 32" WS TV! :(

On the other hand, they look sensational on my 43" 4:3 TV!:D

Yes, well not all of us have our own IMAX-size TV at home ;)

Many of the IMAX movies are also fantastic documentarys that are worth owning even if they are not viewable on a massive screen.
And as is mentioned above, many of the IMAX movies, like Everest, were never 3D in the first place, so you don't loose anything except the scale.

Which ones? All the half-dozen or so IMAX films I've seen have been painfully bland, with only the scale to commend them. If they turned up on TV, you wouldn't give them a second glance.
In fact, that's the problem with Everest - there are three documentaries on the DVD, and the main feature is by far the weakest in terms of actual content. The story of how they got the huge and heavy IMAX camera up there in the first place is far more interesting!

A-ha!
This thread has just reminded me.
Sorry it's a different topic and the search engine is out of action,
but don't suppose anyone knows the link to the 4:3 Vs Widescreen TV's thread.
