I've just seen the following on DVD Street (presumably taken from the packaging):

"Unavailable for over 15 years, The Lord of the Rings has become a cult classic opening a door to a magical world with its fantastic creatures and spellbinding magic. This ambitious animated version of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy saga was the first time anyone had adapted the epic story for the screen."

Which is a little bit naughty when you consider that the film does not cover the full story. I wonder how many people are going to have a nasty surprise?

And a double whammy too. The animation is abysmal in parts, especially towards the end of the film where it's nothing more than a traced outline of the actors themselves.

I have quite a soft spot for Bakshi's LOTR. I think it is a pity he didn't finish the saga. He went on to make another fantasy film "Fire and Ice" which had a semi-clad woman running around...

Always thought LOTR was lacking in semi-clad women running around. Perhaps he should have combined the two and then he'll have produced a decent film. :)

He could even keep the same title:

Lord of the Rings ... ;)
