I have just taken delivery of the Tosh and spent aprox 2 hours setting it up in my system. I have a Tosh 42PW23 rear projection TV plus a Humax 800t reeview box (with hard drive).

However i can not get a RGB signal going into the Tosh.

The Humax outputs a RGB signal which i have connected to AV2 on the tosh recorder through a scart lead. I then have AV1 from the recorder connected to my RGB input on the TV.

The problem is when i set the AV2 inut selection ie you can select video, RGB or s-video i can only get a picture when using the video setting. When sellecting RGB i get sound but the screen is completely black. When selecting s-video the picture goes black and white.

I know the Tosh recorder is outputing RGB as there is a big difference to the menu screens on the recorder when set to RGB (ie crisper text).

I cant work out why when selecting RGB there is no picture just sound.

I am also having problems with the SAT mo loop through - when i press the sat mon button the picture does not seem to be RGB as the menus on the freeview box are hazy and are not as crisp as when the freeview box is plugged straight into the RGB socket of my TV. I experimented by plugging a scart lead from the freeview box (not RGB output) into AV2 on my TV (also non RGB) and can see not difference between the quality of the signal of this and when i press the Sat mon Button. I would have expected to see a differecne. This suggests that there is a problem somewhere.

I dont know therefore what i am doing wrong - ie could there be a problem with my scart leads or is there a problem with the Tosh recorder.

Plaese can anyone offer any advice

i've had the same problem and it isn't the scart leads as i've tried many different ones up to now and the no picture but sound issue is confusing. i also have the problem of a hazy picture via the Tosh's AV2 on my sky+ box but as yet i can't seem to solve it.

any help would be appreciated

How long have you had yours for as mine is brand new - i am worried that there might be a fault with the recorder.

Does anyone have any links where this topic has been raised.

Thanks

Make sure you have AV2 selected and sat mon is on.

Sometime you also need to give the signal a "boost" ie I press Sky once more and it forces the signal through. not sure of the humax equivalent.

Pressing Sat mon has no effect on the quality of the picture (it is still not RGB ). I checked this by plugging the Freeview box directly into my TV (RGB picture ie no fuzzy edges to text, crisper picture). However once the same scart is plugged into the Tosh i can not select an RGB input (as the picture disapears and goes black).

I have now tried plugging both my Tosh 330 DVD player (making sure that the output was set to RGB) plus my x-box (again RGB output) to the AV2 input on the RDXS32.

I am still getting the same result i.e with the input set to RGB the screen goes black, the actual menu is still on the screen but the TV picture underneath goes completely black (i can still hear the audio however). When i change the input to Video the picture returns but is obviously not of RGB quality.

If i connect the DVD player and output s -video through the scart and set the AV2 to accept s-video the result is a crystal clear picture but in black and white. I get the same result when connecting the freeview box and changing the settings to S-video.

The facia of the Tosh machine shows that i have the selection set to AV2.

I rang Toshiba and they did not have any idea of what they were talking about. They were adamant that AV2 does not accept a RGB signal and that i should plug the RGB scart from the freeview box straight into my TV and the non RGB video output on the freeview box into AV1 on the Tosh. He said that the system would record an RGB signal if i did that. Common sense sys that it wont as the AV1 does not accept an RGB signal (well not according to the installation book) I know from these forums that what this guy said is wrong.

Do i assume therefore that my Tosh is broken in some way or just accept what the guy from Toshiba said.

Could the problem be with the scart lead - ie if a pin is broken on the scart would that have any effect. However becasue the same scart lead gives a picture when the input is set to video i would have thought that the lead was working ok.

Someone had this problem on the avforums and it was a fault on the player
