I'm getting a little frustrated with the overlong startup time on many DVDs. Sure, we're all used to the standard copyright warnings when you boot up a R1 disc, but there are far worse offenders.
The R2 Farscape discs, for example, go through a succession of trailers before you finally get to the menu. Seemingly every company connected with the releases gets a plug. Then, yesterday I popped in Cold Feet series 3 and they're putting bloody adverts on before the menus now
Just you wait - they'll be calling them extras soon.
I don't mind the adverts or trailers as long as you can skip them. I know what you mean though about the copyright stuff - R2/R4 Fox discs go on for ages with about 3 or 4 pages worth!

Toy Story is the worst. It plays loads of trailers to other Disney films before displaying the main menu.
just enter title 1
once the trailers start - it jumps to the film!
easy work around
wrt Fox R2/R4 discs, you do know that you can "next chapter" past all except the last countries copyright page? Also, on a lot of discs, you can just go straight to title 1 then immediatly press menu to shortcut yourway to the menu.
My Phantom Menace goes through about ten copyright warnings in different languages.

Know what you mean - my copy of Sexy Beast takes about five minutes to get through the bloody ads for Channel 4/E4/Film Four.
I might just rip the film off the DVD so I can skip it.

Yeah, that works on all the other discs I've got except for Sexy Beast for some reason.

Mmmm - yes, I agree there are workarounds, but that's a bit like saying "I don't mind that they've dug up the street outside my house because I can always climb over the back fence to get out".
A bit like this :brickwall (never has a smiley been so apt).
My point is that it's annoying and companies seem to be getting even more keen to load up the pre-menu section with ads.

There's something ALMOST as irritating as unskippable stuff before the film... unskippable stuff AFTER the film!
I hate it when I watch the end credits right to the end, with the aim of keeping the disc in the player and watching the special features, and there are 10 unskippable copyright notices at the end... macrovision credit, studio logo, DVD credits, copyright notices for 10 countries, etc. And it won't let you go to the menu until they're all over! It won't even let me stop the DVD on my player.
