Hi
I need to purchase some speaker wire as the ones that came with my eltax x.1 package are too short for my room.
I am thinking about purchasing the QED originals (@£2/m from www.Hifistore.co.uk or some Gale XL 315 (same price) or some of the 79 strand option from the thread below:

Can smoeone help me decide what I should get for this price range.
Many thanks.
I also have a 1070 and have used Cable Talk 3.1 for a few years and found it to be a good upgrade from the supplied bell wire and a good compromise between price and performance.
I recently rewired the rears with Ixos flat cable at £1.79 per metre from avland so that I could hide the cable under the carpet.
A recent lengthy thread on uk.media.home-cinema ng on speaker cables came to the conclusion that on the whole they were a cynical marketing ploy and that twin and earth was every bit as good.
Expensive cable may be worthwhile on expensive hifi but is less useful on mid price av gear.
Regards
Ian

if it's the stargate x1's, then gale 315 is probably far too thick to fit. go to richer and either take one of the stargates with you (as they're pocket-sized) and try the cable out or ask them if they would do a tiny bit of each to test in the connections. i think richer do a 189 strand that should fit ok.
Totally agree about thick speaker cable - the X1 will only take quite small cables. I have Gale (something or other <£1 per metre from RS 2 years ago) and its a very tight fit in the X1 connectors. I managed to snap one of the clips as they are very fragile so take great care.

Try Gale Hyperlitz
I use it on my Sony Eltax Silverado setup
Nice and flat, flexable too
Quite an exiting sound from this cable :)

Thanks to All for replying.
Yes, it is the Eltax X1 speaker package, and I hadn't taken into account the thicknes of the speaker cables. It's something I'll certainly be looking into.
Should I expect the gale XL 189 cable to be better than the 79 strand cable for my mid range purposes?

that would seem a reasonable assumption. i use 189 strand to connect my stargate x1's to my pioneer amp and they sound fine to me.

Thanks for your advice. I have gone for the gale XL 189; should save me a few pounds compared to the higher spec cables I was thinking of originally.

Has anyone with the Sony 1070 and Eltax speakers incorporated a sixth speaker to their home cinema setup? Any (cheap) suggestions?

this isn't exactly what you asked, but i use a different centre speaker with my stargate setup (a black eltax liberty centre that goes well sitting on my black tv) as i felt that the little speakers were fine for surrounds and front, but a little weak for the main centre channel. i now have one of the stargates left to use as a rear centre if i want, which will (in my opinion) look better than having an out-of-place rear speaker (and also be handier in terms of physical dimensions to place on a rear wall).

rsykes2000,
Thanks for your suggestion, although I was looking for a cheaper option (I think the Eltax Liberty cost around £100).

A bit off-topic, I know, but how do you find the Silverados, WR? Reason I ask is I really like the look of them (and they're only £109 at QED!) and am thinking of getting some to start off my system.

I am also a Silverado owner and find them to be very impressive for their price. Just blew away my existing Pro-Logic hifi speakers.

how about the mission 70c1 (http://www.mission.co.uk/7as.htm#70c1) from richersounds.com ? decent quality, reasonably priced (dowen to 50 quid from 150). part of the well-reviewed cinema 1 pack.
