I wondered where all the extras, documentaries etc were! Must be on that missing disc ;)

from what i hear, it sounds a disappointing set. Is it just the redux version, no extras, commentarires, docu's, interviews etc? that's a shame for such a classic film.

Just the film & a trailer (although I'm happy when the film is that good)
Apparently Coppola's planning an SE for sometime next year, but I don't know of that's for the Redux version or the original cut.

Guess a seamless branching version would be the best idea as it would keep both 'camps' happy, i.e. those who prefer the original cut and the those who prefer the redux cut.

Yep, that would be a really cool idea. I'll hold off buying this feaureless redux and see if anything else comes along better. I'll watch redux at my cinema if it shows locally... hope it does!

There's no original negatives left of the original cut though is there? I thought Coppola had to re-cut the original negatives to make Redux?
I'm sure Paramount/Coppola will still have the masters produced for the first DVD edition, so they should be able to put together a seamless branching version together with the Redux version.
Never seen this film is it any good?

Not sure if this was posted but there are reviews of this [daft] DVD version here (http://www.dvdfile.com/software/review/dvd-video_4/apocalypsenowredux.html) and here (http://www.dvdauthority.com/apocalypsenowredux.asp)
I've seen most of these scenes and they detract from how I remember the film <u>and</u> slow things overall.

In short, yes, it's fantastic - however, the original cut & the Redux version are quite different.
Being honest, as much as I like the Redux cut, the original is better.

Got the disc and have gone over it a few times now.
Mmmmmmmm
The 2 major scenes put in (ie, over 4 mins) don't really do much for me.
1. Playmate scene.
2. French plantation.
Playmate scene is ok but too much airhead talk.
French Plantation scene is too muddled and confusing.
The rest of the scenes consist of a few extra lines for Duvall and Brando. And stealing the surfboard scene and then hiding out.
The original ending stays, so no destruction of the Kurtz compound included. (Extra in the R2 version)
I do not have a superior set up but the picture looked perfect to me.
I am interested in any member who has seen the 6 hour bootleg, as imo if these are the scenes re-instated, then the rest must have been rank.
Why no more on Scott Glens character who took the mission before Sheen?
A bit more of spaced out Hopper is always good for a laugh, as is Brandos babbling, which he does so well.
All in all, unless the picture really is that much better than the original R2 release, (which I don't have) then you may feel hard done by.
Still a masterful film though.

These scenes have been kicking about for <u>years</u>. BBC2 showed most of them (plus others that aren't in the Redux film).
This is just a money making exercise (d'oh :D) by Coppola who's just trying to pay off some of his debts.
Hey guy's 'n' gals, I was really looking forward to getting this but now I'm not so sure as to which version to wait and get, can anyone recommend? I guess I really wanted the original film as I thought it so good, on region 2 if the picture quality is better than 1. Or is there no choice as to which one to buy at the moment with maybe only one version and region available?
Thanks :)

If you liked the film and want to see it how you first saw it then get the original version.
The Region 2 disc is very good, reviewed here (http://www.dvddebate.com/article.php?sid=1445). www.dvd.co.uk (http://www.dvd.co.uk/logbanner.asp?from=tdf02) still list it.
I haven't seen the redux version yet but I have to say that it's disappointing to see that the new DVD is a bare bones release. I'd have thought that we'd have had the inclusion of the excellent Hearts of Darkness documentary as a minimum. Hopefully the R2 redux version may have it......but I think that's wishfull thinking on my part.
