12 month minimum contract (unless you cancel within your first month) but if you're after a long-termer and reliable provider, this is a lovely deal.
I’m paying £38 pm for 1.5MB on NTL cable – is it time to switch over to ADSL? Anyone done this, ADSL deals seem to coming down in price fast.
What are the best 2mb deals?

I take it your gonna need a phone line, will it have to be BT?
yes you will need BT for ADSL!!
Hmm yeh suppose so. We only use NTL for telephone, no TV package so no big loss on that front. Not clued up about phone charge differences between BT or NTL - :help:

Umm - I'm in the same boat. tbh, I couldn't live with less than 1.5 at the mo, my modem is on fairly constant as it is. Now if a 2mb service was available - even for a few squids more - I'd definitely be interested.

I beleive Supernet is owned by Time/Tiny computers as there PC's come preloaded with it and its difficult to remove.
Might be only a matter of time before a 2MB is introduced from supa since other isps are already providing this. Had a quick search on google and supanet have got good feedback from customers and reviews on ispreview.co.uk.
Problem is the 12 month tie in contract, since prices are dramatically dropping and faster services around the corner, they can only get cheaper and faster. Suppose this is the only way to get people to sign-up – under cut the competition and sign new customers for 12 months. No doubt a month down the line another ISP with even better deal will be announced.

Aah, say no more! Wont be going for this then :(

12 month contract :(
Just done a quick google so it definately looks like a subsidary of Time if you look at the address
Supanet's registered office is:
Supanet Ltd
Indigo House
Time Technology Park
Blackburn Road
Simonstone
Burnley
Lancashire BB12 7NQ
Time Computers
Address:
Time Computers,
Granville House,
Blackburn Road,
Simonstone,
Burnley,
Lancashire,
BB12 7TG
£70 to cancel the tesco contract :( just the phone from them
Most places charge that in the first year as they have paid your connection fee on your behalf.
Even though Supanet is based in the same "technology park" as Time/Tiny, Supanet is a independent organisation to them. The use of supanet on their new build PCs seems to be a mutual working relationship between the two. However, Supanet is completely different when it comes to cusomter service etc...
The supanet service in my opinion has been flawless, and the introduction of the 1 meg service is definately a bonus.

With ADSL you dont HAVE to install any software, just modem drivers if your using that. (and DHCP TCP). No need for their branding crap.

Do you have to use their modem or can I use my router modem?
the modem you get is a standard USB one.. and yes if you have your own router modem, you can configure it to use that instead.. shouldnt be a problem
Just gave them a ring with a question took 3 mins to answer phone which is good , anyways its free to migrate and then free to upgrade to 1mb as you have to migrate with the same speed so peeps on 512 migrate to SupaNet512 then upgrade to 1mb.
The sales guy gave me the billing phone number to double check and that phone was answered in 38 seconds.
Alot quicker than Pipex who took 47mins to answer the phone the other week

So i know and will cancel with pipex but does that mean i need a mac code to switch?
Yes mac code is needed from Pipex.

Yeah trying to weedle mine out of Nildram....apparently my online records from Bt dont show it so they are having to write to BT to get it  .....hopefully they wont take too long about it...or hope I forget all about it......I have heard from friends who have had issues trying to get MAC codes from other ISP's.
DON'T cancel a current ADSL service, otherwise you'll need re-activating again. That's fine in this case, because Supanet appear not to charge for this, however it WILL mean you will be without a service for a few weeks (while BT disconnect then 'reactivate' you).
RATHER what you should do is to MIGRATE. The new ISP should be able to tell you how to do this.
I'm planning on moving house soon. I'm using BTOpenworld's 1mb service atm which I understand is under 3 month contract, if I move house, am I still obliged to retain the contract or can I just start a new contract with a new ISP at the new house?
most times when u move house the contract renews in most cases

Let me know how you get on. I emailed them several times when the Wanadoo 1mb service was advertised asking when they would be following. Never had a reply :oh-hum:
Looking in the Computing Forum a lot of people recommend Plusnet (1mb service starts at £14.99 a month, but is restricted the more you pay the more use you get) Anyway http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ rates it higher than Supanet!
im on plus.net and I pay £40 a month for the 2 meg service.. yes the service is good, and ive had a few outages here and there.. but the price at which the 1 meg service has been introduced by supanet, the offer is irresistable... if I was able to cope with the 1 meg speed from a 2meg connection, I would have taken up on the offer.. .pity im tied down to a 12 month contract :(

Never had a reply :oh-hum: they (pipex) kept emailing me saying my direct debit was failing, i kept replying asking them to ring me and explaining why - 2 months of this went on, they never answered once!!! :( cut me off in the end! the reason it was failing is i had set up a new mandate (which they emailied me to say they had received) - just for some reason, they were still drawing from the old one...
Pipex a year ago were fantastic! Now they're dreadful :( :oh-hum:

Is this MAC code they talk about the same thing as a "CBUK" number?
I've requested a CBUK (from BT) when I thought about transferring before but this is the first time I've heard of the MAC code (other than for MAC addresses in network adapters).

I have been on AOL HELL for 14 months on a pretty good £19.99 for 512 speed, but this offer is too good to miss so I tried in vain to get the Mac number from AOL.
First of all I tried ther internet tech chat feature.
Can you please advise me of my indiviual Mac number as I plan to migrate to another ISP. I asked.
I'm sorry sir but if you are using a MAC machine, I am unable to help you and would advise you contact the helpline. Goodbye. Came the reply ARRRRGHHHH
Time to call the free helpdesk number and stuck on hold for 20mins, a man of obvious asian orgin answered and introduced himeself as Steve Jones lol How can I improve your online experience he asked?
When I asked for my Mac number, he refused!!! he said I'm still under contract despite being with them for 16months.
Apparently when I moved house 2 months ago, this put me back on a 12 month contract. I then asked for the mac number again as I could sort out the problems with complaints team but he still refused to offer me my Mac number.
Are they allowed to do this and Must I stay with them for another year????
Serves me right for selling my soul o them for a bargain :(
I posted on ADSL guide and got this response from someone........
All sounds good but.......

Dunno what a cache server is
basically, most company's proxy servers use "caching".
The way this works is by offering users a faster download.
Look at it this way:
Let's say 1% of users go to www.bbc.co.uk.
The first user logs on and the page is delivered to their browser. The page and pictures are then put into cache (or saved) on the proxy server.
The second user logs on to www.bbc.co.uk. Rather than waste valuable bandwith, the proxy server points at the cached (or saved) version.
There is a benefit to the ISP as they save outgoing bandwith by using a saved version of the page.
It's a little more complicated than that (actually the second user forces the proxy server to make sure the page hasn't been updated since the first user logs on and it doesn't necessary save or cache every page) but that's the basics of it.
But is it good :D or bad :(
i am with Virgin.net

Another one here asking the same question  due to Virgin falling to pieces again taking 12 hours to d/l a 700mb file
deanos - if i remember correctly all ISPs use caching to save on bandwidth.. It saves them approximately 35% of their bandwidth... It shouldnt make any difference if its cached or not, in all honesty it should speed things up as the information wont need to be retrieved directly form internet and will be sent to you from the cache! like i mentioned earlier, im sure most ISPs use cache servers to send the data...

Good price for an unlimited service.
most times when u move house the contract renews in most cases
Not too sure what you mean by that. So if I move house will BTO renew my contract and install broadband there as well without charging me for installation etc?
What if I change ISP completely, surely they can't force me to use their service if I'm moving.

Your telephone line will be provisioned for broadband in 10 working days.

You can change back to BT entirely freely and keep you number though I believe it takes somewhat longer to arrange. But first make sure that you can receive ADSL;
Check out, if any of your immediate neigbours have it.
How far are you from the Exchange ?
you could try one of your neigbours telephone numbers in one of the on line number checkers
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/availability/btchecker.asp
If you have a BT line you can also have entirley free connections -provided you stay for 1 year with several ISPs ie www.freedom2surf.net to name but one top ISP.
I left NTL as they can't run a ****up in a brewery - went down for several weeks poor net work, E-mail They forget that a very large number of their customers have a choice!!! With BT there is a more competitve situation.
Gook luck
I should just add the best telephone setup is the basic BT one £10 ish a month and then to use 18866 for all calls http://www.call18866.co.uk/index2.php
Check out them prices and its all true|||

I jus migrated, all you need to do is ring you current ISP, in your case pipex, then you ask for the "MAC" number, then you take that number to supanet website and sign up with the migrate button, then its all done :)
You will not need to call your ISP to say you want to cancle with them, the person from my current isp said "BT" (i think) will do it.

The IP will only ever change if your router has to be rebooted. I believe the ISP can force a refresh of the IP address if need be causing your router to reconnect.
I tend to have the same IP address on Pipex until I reboot (generally every week or so - so almost static IP).

This is a problem being experienced by all ISP's who have users with Norton Security Suite and Outlook Express.
There is a bug in the new Norton update that does not seem to like certain types of e-mail.
The AV software thinks it is SPAM but for some reason causes the firewall to close the conenction to the POP servers.
I know Symantec are aware of this problem and are working on a fix.

Does anyone know what type of modem is supplied with this ???
Is this supplied to just new customers, or migrations too ?
Thanks
Dunno, probs one of the those crappy usb modems
So what next?
Signed up and no mention of modem delivery or any reference number etc??
Why so bad customer support, BT still haven't contacted me after a fiasco with account info so going to have to cnace with them

Why so bad customer support?
Erm, Time & Tiny wait on no man?
Sorry. :oh-hum: :dork:
has anyone been contacted who registered with this company?????
When you signed up for supanet, they give you an email address "whoever@supanet.com" you have to check this email account for updates and important news.
I phoned up supanet and, the man was very helpful, said my 1mb will be ready on the 21st, and i migrated on the 12th. Cant wait for 1mb :)

I signed up last week. Got an instant welcome email with a promise that I would be moved to theri 512kb service within 5 days and that my modem would arrive in 2-3 days...since then I've heard nothing.
I also emailed them last week about email address's. Your first one is xxxxx@supanet.com but all the others end with a different domain...@supaworld.com, @supagirls.com etc..far easier to have the whole family's ending in @supanet.com. Had no reply to that either despite a promise to reply within 72 hours!
Not impressed so far. If it doesn't get any better I may cancel and move to Plus.net.

I signed up last week and got the welcome email. Since then I've had no correspondance, the Supanet email no longer accepts my password & my BT ADSL is no longer working.
Not impressed at all so far. Grrr.
So far they've been excellent with me. Signed up on the 8th and received the following email,
"Dear Customer
Your supanet broadband registration has passed the initial tests and been accepted.
Your telephone line will be provisioned for broadband in 10 working days.
Please check your supanet E-Mail account regularly for any future notifications on your order progress.
Once we receive confirmation from BT that your Broadband line is ready we will dispatch your Modem (please allow 2-3 days for delivery)."
phoned them on the 18th and they said it was getting activated on the 23rd and that my modem is getting sent out saturday.
BT may be slow in doing whatever they have to do. Seems like lots of people have taken this up.
I signed up on the 8th and immediately received e-mail confirming that broadband will be provisioned within 10 days
Not had any e-mails since so rang this morning and they confirmed I should receive my router by 4.00pm Friday
The freephone number given earlier in this thread is for billing enquiries, broadband support is 0800 1380454
Last email from them for me was yesteday:
The provisioning process for your supanet broadband account is now complete.
Please activate your account by going to:-
https://signup.supanet.com/activate/
IMPORTANT: You must follow the above link to activate your broadband account, once you have done this follow the on screen instructions to complete the activation.
Once you have activated your supanet broadband account you will still be able to connect with a supanet pay as you go account if necessary.
The on screen instructions ask for my username and password, then I get the following:
Congratulations! Your supanet broadbank activation process is now complete.
Please refer to the supanet Broadband User Manual for instructions on how to configure your DSL modem.
Your Connection username is:
*******@supadsl1.com
Any ideas where the Broadband user manual is?
Maybe the manual for the modem?
Well my 1mb should be here on the 21st (tomorrow) ill post on here how i get on, i hope there is no let down.
And plusnet aint really good, on adslguide forums they slaged them off. 1mb weeeee :D
Since you have to migrate from a 512K service to 512k, do you have to wait until you are online with the isp before you can upgrade to 1MB or can you do it all in one guy i.e. the upgrade too?

Right,
well i have received an email from Virgin net giving me my MAC code - BBIP139************** - i am assuming this is what i need to move to supanet or central point?
SO, when i give SupanetCP this do i need to cancel m Virgin account or give them 30 days notice or something?
Also, i am going from 512k to 1mb, will i lose any days or time in this?
has anyone gone from 56kbs to this 1mb service, and was there any problems??

I have and I'll let you know in the next few days once it gets activated
Can I confrim this? I have migrated from 512 pipex to 1mb Supanet - does SUpanet stay 512 for while and then zoom up to 1Mb?

When you migrate, does it mean you have a fresh new contract for ADSL for 12 months or because you've already been on ADSL for over a year mean that its a rolling 28 contract?

Signed up for this on the 8th October, and heard nothing....
Mailed them to ask for progress, I included my Full name, Address and contact numbers, including the one for the line it was being provided on. Their reply was "Please supply your user ID so we can check for you". This I supplied, still no contact or reply.
Checked the webmail and it is still just the 3 mails sent when I signed up..
This is looking pretty bad so far, can see me cancelling this before it's supplied.

With the trouble that you guys are having i would get out now while you can , maybe go to EFH £19.99 unlimited 1mb seems good ive got for the £11.74 512 option myself.

www.supanet.com/cancellations just doing it myself, but you do need an account number, which I have'nt been given
I got home after skool today and all i had to do is ring them up on 0800 138 0454 and ask them to activate your line.
if your with peipex now your current user name might be "Whateva@pipex.com" all you got to do is change your user name + password on your modem/router to the new domain login.
Its basicly your Supanet email login username + @supadsl1.com for example if my username is pepsi = pepsi@supadsl1.com and your pasword is your supanet Email login password.
Love the speed its great :D
0800 numbers ---> they are human its called a "lunch time" or a "fag time" just keep waiting on the phone, i rang them up when i had lunch at skool, no one there so i rang the other 0800 number and they said they are at lunch, so i returned home AFTER skool (4:30) and gave them a call and got thru in 4 mins.

Just to update, its taken me nine days to migrate from Virgin to Supanet, the speed is good and the migration was pain free. I applied for the 1mb service but apparently you cant do that so i think i have to wait a month to upgrade?

Confirmed by phone that modem should arrive by Wed/Thurs next week.
I wont get a modem, dont really need it, the guy on the phone said if i got the modem i should flog it, after 1 year i can keep it, but if i drop out from supanet before 1 year i have to send the modem back
I migrated, dont think you get a free modem if you migrate :( could of floged that modem for £20 - £30 on ebay or some dumbass.

Exchange has just been enabled, so gone for this. Thanks for the heads up.
I transfered from Pipex 512 to Supanet 1meg it was transfered our about 5 days after signing up and upgraded to 1meg yesterday.
Customer Service - Really helpful when I had to call then for there pop and smtp servers. Email are a bit ropey.
Transfer process - Tricky one this seemed really easy, but pipex are still charging me?
Thought that once this was transfered over with the MAC code they would sort all this out. Think I'll have to give pipex a call on this one.
Speed - Yep is 1meg
Reliability - Been ok on 512 so cant see any problems yet.

EDIT - D'oh, found the free number now, should have read through the whole thread.

england --> what speed are you getting? My friend on pipex 512 beat me on adslguide speed test, i felt like a total edit coz his on 512 and im on 1mb and still managed to loose on speed :(

When you say it won't allow you to send anything, at what stage is it failing?
Are you using outlook, and are items staying in your outbox?
Are you getting Undeliverable messages?
I found that I can't put my alternative email address in the mail address section in outlook, as it generates an undeliverable message telling me not to.
Also if you have more than one account in outlook (express) have you made supanet the default, else it will try sending from I guess pipex if it's your old default?
I'm a tad fed up that you can only get one email account, and aliases to that. I may need to cancel just because of that.
DR.
i finally managed to sign up for this, thanks to OP.
FYI - had no problems with getting MAC from Pipex, and just filled in all the online supanet forms.

My flatmate's got BT Broadband...would I be able to use Supanet in my room off the same phoneline or is that just a stupid question?
This is probably covered in the Computing forum, look there for more info...
Get an ADSL modem router and share his existing BT connection (BT line into router, network cable{or wireless** out of router to his and your PCs).
Split the cost 50/50. Unless you are both horsing bit torrent or napster then it shouldn't really be that bad.
If he says "I don' wanna share", kick his @ss.
You can only get one broadband provider per BT line into the house.
Else convince him to ditch BT and go Supanet (though you'll obv still need to get a router etc to share).

ADSL is always on, but is sent down the wire at a higher frequency to the voice signal which is filtered out using the er filters, so, yes you can use the phone whilst on the internet

All in all, not too bad an experience so far, I went from 56k to 1mB. I had my own router, so it took 10 working days for me to be connected from placing order. I would have had to wait another 3 w/d if I was waiting for the modem they send out, so that's a bit poor in some respects.
Download speeds are as I expected, and all seems fine. Just not quite as quick as my old 1.5meg Cable set-up :-( (but £10 cheaper)

What about your username and password? Do you need them to connect?
Against my better judgement I am migrating from Pipex, Supanet have already cocked up by signing me up as a new adfsl connection rather than a migration!
Are you sure they are not Time computers in disguise?

But I've just logged into my supanet web mail for the first time and all the emails have been sent there instead of my hotmail account. Not sure if I missed a field when I signed up.

Couple of Questions:
Is it normal for a 12 month contract to mutate into a "rolling until cancelled" contract? The T&C on their website says this is what happens, so watch out when your 12 months is up.
And does 13.4 mean that if you can't get connected they have "generally stopped providing the service"?
Just getting cold feet now I've gone for this and remember signing up for a "too good to be true" dial-up account a few years ago, only for it to be unusable due to overloading after 3 months. (Hello, V21!) 50:1 contention with no limits might mean heavy users pounding it 24hours a day. Oh well...
If it's ADSL, does that mean I'm "always on", ie there's no connection issues? Just maybe poor up/download speeds?
{And distance buying protection doesn't apply as they may have started proceedings to get you connected already**
from T&C
13.3 Either of us may terminate the Contract (thereby cancelling your subscription to the Service) immediately upon written notice to the other if the other materially breaches any of the terms of the Contract (and, if the breach is capable of remedy, fails to remedy it within thirty (30) days of being asked to do so in writing) or becomes bankrupt or insolvent or goes into liquidation.
13.4 Supanet may cancel the Contract (thereby cancelling your subscription to the Service) immediately upon written notice if, for any reason, it generally stops providing the Service.
13.5 You will be entitled to a refund of any pre-paid Charges in respect of which you will not receive the Service as a result of your termination under condition 13.3 or Supanet's termination under condition 13.4.
Couple of Questions:
Is it normal for a 12 month contract to mutate into a "rolling until cancelled" contract? The T&C on their website says this is what happens, so watch out when your 12 months is up.
Nope thats pretty much normal same as a phone contract you are tied for 12 months when thats up it carries on until you cancel.
cheer for the help Badger
Can anyone tell me what the ping times are like to american servers??
Ummm why the hell would you wanna play on an american server?
If i was you ill stick to a european server, much more faster pings! avoid jolt uk servers they just suck, play on germans or dutch gaming servers they rock :)
Does anyone know if there is a static IP you can use from supanet, or do you have to use a dynamic one assigned by them
They say its dynamic but its static for me, i go on www.ipchicken.com and the IP is allways the same not matter what i do, i tired reboting the modem/router, i tried to switch me computer off and on again and the IP is still the same :(
No botting on UT24k then eh :P
this is probably a stupid question, but how do i reconfigure my ADSL connection on my PC to "point" to Supanet? is it just a case of changing the userid/passwd or something else aswell?
BTW - originally applied on 28 Oct, got my activation email today (5 Nov), thats 5 working days, so pretty good. I just have to reconnect when i get home tonight.
Pipex Experience - in case someone wants to migrate from Pipex, i was told the best time to call them to get MAC number is 3.45pm-4.45pm as its the least busy. Got the number no probs. Must admit Pipex were really good, its a shame they didn't at least offer to reduce their 1mb access slightly for a consistent customer, even if it wa a little more than supanet would have stuck with pipex, and from their perspective its worth it as they have to offer all sort of freebies for new customers anyway, so by migrating me they would have saved oin that aswell. Oh well ....

All you need to do is enter your user name and password and that's it....
Agree with you 100% about Pipex though, if they had reduced their !mb service I would have stuck with them too.
Woke up this morning and I couldn't connect to my broadband.I tried my username and password that I was given when I signed but this didn't work.I eventually got my sister to log on to my supanet acount and they had sent an activation email with my username for my router.Once I'd activated and changed the username everything was fine.Just have to wait now to up to 1mb.
i am having problems at the moment, pipex have shut me off, but my supanet account is not working, so no internet from home which is not good, i even called up their support line and the guy was very helpful but after re-setting up the netwrok connection and telling me my passwd (wasn;t the same as my email passwd according to him???). keeps on giving me a "invalid userid/passwd" message, so the support guy said that he wasn;t sure why it wasn;t working and i should wait till tomorrow (i.e. sunday) but still wasn;t working on sunday either. but i got my activation email, so it should be working? also my adsl modem software is connecting ok, just my useried/passwd is not working. I called Pipex up aswell, and they have defintiely switched off my pipex account.
i'll call their customer services number and see what they say ...

Probably a stupid question but you have clicked the link in the activation email and logged in, haven't you?
Pipex cancelled my account yesterday and I tried off and on for a couple of hours to log in to Supanet with no success. In the end I went next door and used their pc, once I had logged into to the link in the activation email everything worked well!
Bit of a bloody stupid system really, especially for those of us without a dial up connection!
Does anyone know if the same thing will happen when they upgrade me to 1mb?

Have you tried your username as
your email username with @supadsl1.com on the end and your password as the same as your email password.
yup - i had already activated from work by clicking on the link in the email, and used the full user with supadsl.com suffix. I spoke to someone else and they said it wouldn't be ready till 12 Nov!
just called customer services and apparently i can't connect to Supanet with my existing ADSL modem without a router, basically i have to wait for their adsl modem and use that to connect. Apparently if you have your own adsl modem and router they let you know relevent setting you need to set on the router to enable you to connect (DNI, VNI, protocol etc I think he said), apparently this config information is handled for you by pipex (hence can use any adsl modem), but not supanet. Does this sound right?

Sounds like a load of blarney to me. Can't their tech guys talk you through it?
I use my modem/router to conect to supanet, all you gotta do is change the username and pass.
BTW 1mb and 512k login names are difference on supanet the 1mb one ends with @supadsl1.com they 512kb one is something else.
i already spoke to their tech guys over the weekend, and they just got me to set up a new internet connection, where all it does is a new modem connection with the supanet username and passwd.
i don;t really understand myself why my current adsl modem would work with pipex, but not with supanet. BUt i repeated the statement: "so my current adsl modem will not work without a router, but will work if i use a router, if i don't have a router i have to use your (Supanet's) adsl modem", to which he agreed several times.
sounds like dodgy advice to me, but what can i do ... i'll check the configuration of my adsl modem tonight and see if there is anything obviously pipex specific in there
but he did say that my supanet broadband was up and running and activated. so no problems in that respect ....

I was activated on Friday on a 512 connection. I can not wait for the 1M line. They have informed me that it will be 10 days when I am upgraded to my 1M line.
The service has been fantastic up till now.
I can't beleive I stayed with my old supplier for so long with a 512 connection that fluctuated from 0 to anything.!!!
Thanks to the original OP.

I use my Netgear 834 router/modem to connect. I just changed the password and username and it connects no problem. All the other settings were identical to Pipex.
I've never received a modem from them either, did everyone else get one?
I use my Ebuyer/Origo adsl modem/router and all I did was change the username and password, once I had clicked through the activation email, and away it went using exactly the same settings as I used on Pipex.
When they change me over to 1mb will I have to click a link in an activation email again, or will I just need to change my username when it stops working?

For the record. I went from 56k straight to 1 meg, so no waiting to get upgraded from 512k.
Anyway being impatient, I checked my order through BT and knew when my ADSL was live, this was 4 or 5 days before Supanet were going to have sent me my modem, and as I knew I was going to be using an existing network, and therefore needed an Ethernet modem I bought one. (you still with me)
The modem I got (from Maplins), had a conextant (or whatever it is) chipset, and wouldn't connect, I had activated the account, I had spoken to their tech support who insisted they could only help me when I got my Zoom modem from them, but also insisted that the account was active, and confirmed I had the right user and password. Whenever I tried to connect I got incorrect user and /or password error. However the modem did identify the adsl connection as live, and also picked up it was 1meg.
I then got hold of and used a Dlink DSL-G604T wireless modem router package (borrowed) and lo and behold this connected first time. So bkny I don't know what you are using, but are you able to try a different modem?
I bought one of the dlink routers, and I am using it now it's fine and very easy to configure. (firewall etc wise)

my username stayed the same before and after being upgraded to 1mb. ends in supadsl1.com
and also, you dont have to activate the connection again after being switched to 1mb. I was upgraded last wednesday, switched on the pc in the morning and found that it had been bumped up. i got an email 3 days later asking me to activate again then, i just left it. didnt think it was necessary and everythinhg has been fine since.

thanks fanmeister, it seems we have a similar setup, as i also have a conexant chipset modem so look slike i am ahving the same problem as you were, so i guess i will have to wait for their modem. i don't need a router as i only have one PC, and not likely to get another one, and as their modem is in the post, i'lll wait ...

Some girl i know who is on 512k didnt have the @supdasl1.com, confusing really.
Im quite happy with the speed, but at night times when i play games like ut24k i get a load of lag (400ping) I open run then i type CMD and i ping www.google.com my average ping is 400ms :( Im not happy about this tho, but my download speed seems to be fine, well over 110kbs, but i get lag? why?
Mine has been stopping intermittently since Sunday, and I found this
From the Supanet Website
Report: Peak time degraded service on ADSL and dialup platforms
Symptoms: User may experience degraded services during busy peak times
Actions: This is caused by capacity issues with the Supanet main core routers. This is caused by the increase in ADSL user traffic.
Supanet are awaiting installation dates of new Internet Transit connections & new CPU cards for core routers.
These should be completed this week.
Once again we aplogise for the inconvenience, but please rest assured that we will return service back to normal once these upgrades are completed.
Thanks
The Supanet Team
Too much too soon perhaps
ohhh right last week i got pings like 40 - 50 no higher then 65
Just got my MAC code from Pipex and was gonna be signing with Supanet later this week....
But before I do has anyone else got any other feedback re pings for games ?
I mainly play CounterStrike and dont want to lose any performance....
Cheers,

The lag will be there because unlike when downloading the data is coming 99% one way but with games have it going both ways it means the remote PC has to respond to the data packets.
If the remote PC are running slower due to overheads (ie 50 out 50 people using the connection at the same time) then you will get get lag as the remote PC struggles to relay info to and from the other PC's...
Think about it like this - your post man only has to deliver to one house, his round will only take a short while (low ping) but if he has to deliver to 50 people the deliveries will be slower (high ping) as he has to go to more places.
Certainly the servers routing routines in their servers will help speed the process to a minimum but a high number of users means a higher overhead thus lag. Their upgrade may help. I'd like to see before chaning however...
Since I joined up my wireless modem/router keeps dropping connection and when this happens I can't even connect to the router using 182.168.2.1 to connect. Not sure if its my router playing up but it never happened before when I was on nildram.
Got the modem yesterday installed it fine but then tried using my username and password and it binned me out with Error 691 or something.
I have checked my username and password via the activation mail and all is okay.
Weird.
Got mine today - zooming along. Does any else find the zoom modem that you get free to be really good - mine has instant connection (PCI one I used to have took ages), and downloads of 145kps

Yeah I have had a dropped connection problem a few times, and had to reboot the router.
Also had intermittent outgoing email for 2 days.
Hopefully all will be sorted with the core network upgrade they mention on their site.
Pitifully slow today though, almost back to 56k speed just browsing the web.

Thanks for the info mate, anyways they are quite speedy, they are upgrading the core today...this is what it says on their website....
UPDATE 10/11/04 @ 11am
:The core router will be upgraded today sometime just after 12pm. Once we are happy that the upgrade has been sucessful, the new IP Transit conenction will then hopefully be configured.
Please rest assured that we are doing our best to get these changes made ASAP.
Thanks

Hope this is gonna work :D
I have a Zoom X3 model 5560 router/modem i dont get phat speeds like 145kb could it be some settings?
Got it sorted.
Anyone know the method of setting the modem up so that you have an always on connection. It is possible to do according to one of the tech guys and I've been trying to contact zoom support to get the frig from them.

Going on holiday before activation, but want to set up the router for my flat mate to use.
Gone for the 1mb package, and the line needed activation as it's never had a bband connection.
Is the router setup just standard stuff configuration, with username and password like myusername@supadsl1.com pwd=the email password they send me?

thanks. (apols for this not being in the Computing forum, though this seemed the most active thread)
Posted this in Computing forum aswell, but might get some other responses here aswell, so hopefully its ok, but this is driving me mad, sepnt ages trying to get it working now ....
Ok so its not as bad as all that, its just that I have been speaking to oine of their "tech" guys and its driving me mad.
Basically my internet connection was working on Thurs, Supanet gets activated and its broken, and he is telling me that my PC must be "corrupted" and i need to take it back to the PC supplier to get it fixed!!! i felt like jumping out of the window ....
anyway ... anyone know what this bt_user_test@startup_domain user is, that is connecting fine, but IE is not bringin back any pages, nothing has changed on my pc since pipex was working, so i just can't believe that the day supanet is activated my IE/firewall gets corrupted!!!
In detial this is what has happened
1) Pipex working last thurs
2) Supanet activated last fri, so pipex broken
3) I activate SUpanet acccount using their email link on fri
4) ADSL modem is connecting, but Supanet userid/passed not working, giving error 691: incorrect username/passwd
5) Call Supanet on Sat and Sun and they talk me though setting up a new connection, when it doesn't work , they say the line must not have been activated wait till Mon
6) Mon not working, so call Supanet and the guy says that I can't use current modem therefore need to wait for Supanet modem, 3 working days therefore Wed
7) Try connecting to Supanet Tues, Wed and Thurs, still broken and no modem by Thurs
8) Call up yesterday (thurs) and new guy tells me that new modem has not been sent (aaaahggghhhh), but i shouldn't need one anyway. He gives me this bt test user that apparently used to test the line. This connects and apparently should also let me browse. But when i run IE www.bbc.co.uk does not work.
9) Now tech guy states that my IE must be "corrupted", but I say that I have FireFox and that don;t work either, so he says that firefox has "overwritten" IE, o i need to uninstall, so i say that i have had IE and firefox installed for 6 months and they worked fine with Pipex, then he says my firewall is correupted, so he insists that my PC is broken and tells me to resintall IE, unisntall firefox and reinstall firewall, if that don't work he wants me to restore PC back to Thurs when it worked!!!
The problem is now, that to go back to Pipex I need to do whole migration again, with MAC codres and everything, so will wait till i get the modem, and if it don;t work will switch back to pipex. Any help much appreciated.

If you have the ADSL signal and can connect to the BT test site, its the connection to Supanet and soley that. You can't go to BBC.co.uk as that is not on the BT test site - the BT test site is found http://www.bt.net/digitaldemo and the username is bt_test@startup_domain without a password.
Ask them to create you a new account name and password if possible, that should resolve the matter. If not, try disabling the firewall you run as that may be blocking the port it dials out on...
error 691 is generally to do with activation.. have u activated your account by going to the link that has been sent in your email..
Left the pc on last night downloading at 50kbs and woke up this morning to 115ks ,6 days to transfer up to 1mb .
Mine got upgraded this morning as well, 7 days for me and very nice it is too!

What you are being told by support would pig me off as it seems you get different answers everytime you ring up.You need the new modem, you dont need the new modem.Your pc is corrupted without even asking what you have on there.
Sorry cant help, did think about transferring but I'll keep on pipex for the time being as Ive not had a problem apart from the odd day here and there.
I had big probs too - thy said I had not asked for a migration so took 15 dyas longher than should have.
Wrote to them, and they offered a choice of two software packs from 8 choices. GOod for my kids, but cheap for them.
At least they tried....
