My Present sysyem comprises
Pioneer DV535
Denon 1801 Reciever
Kef Cresta 2 Fronts and Centre
Old Sony Hifi Speakers for rears.
I'm looking at adding a sub, but not sure which to get. The Lliving room is quite small/narrow. Roughly 18'x10'.
Is it worth adding a sub? If so which should I get. I dont want to spend too much with Xmas around the corner and 3 kids to please.

Depending what you are considering a sub for. If it is to increase the level of base then I think that your fronts have the level sorted, but if it is to get those lower rumbles the KEFs can not manage then it will add something. If I remember correctly the cresta 2s go down to 48Hz (don't quote me on that), so an addition of a sub will go about 10-25Hz lower, which is a nice improvement.
AS for which one well I have no idea. My student budget is set at about £100 for a sub so I am looking at the Eltax Atomic rangeA6-A8-A10 (QED have good prices for these) but I am sure others have more experience in this field and can give better advice.
Although this (http://www.qed-uk.com/cgi-bin/q?i=1yEA03Yr4YX0&bg=216&bp=a15b&v=9) did catch my eye (well the duel ports did anyway). :)
That Eltax looks nice, but what does it sound like? I've tried to find reviews of it, but the only one (that's 1) says it's not very musical, but OK for movies.
On the other hand, the Paradigm PDR-10 (£150 from Richer) gets generally extremely good reviews, in spite of its limitations (no phase control, grotty feet, etc). Still, careful placement will resolve phase and the feet can always be changed!
Now if only I could afford the Servo-15 ...

WHF has a group test of subs >£500 this month.
Winner is obviously the REL Q150 , but the MJ Acoustics MJ Pro-50 looks mightily shexy!!!

Not sure about the eltax at all, it just looked good. The PDR-10 seems to be a fav of most of the members, but as I said I am unsure.
If it's for watching films, you really can't experience DD properly without one.
I thought you could by having floorstanders up front to produce good bass but I can assure it is not the same thing at all.
The number of films that use LFE, even subtly, to great effect is vast and I've had to watch my dvd collection all thru again to really appreciate this.
You don't have to have it pumped up to realise it's worth.
Do it, you won't regret it.

I'd recommend the KEF PSW1000 - I've just got one and I'm well impressed - 139 quid from Richers online.
Looks good, sounds even better.
