I'am aslo intereste in this AMP (sorry to jump on ya thread) so if anyone has any info or experience that would be great.

Just been ready 'What Hi-Hi' and they gave it near perfect scores for the money, so seems a good buy.

I'd need it for both Films and Music (Hip Hop, Drum & Bass) Cheers, Rizel

Hi-I've always had yamaha here-swapped my old DSPA1000 recently for RXV620RDS-IMO Yamaha from listening have got the home Cinema end just right-but to sharper ears aparently are a let down with your fav cd's-I never noticed that-guess it depends on the speakers too.
The hi-fi shops I visited all said the Marantz 4200 was very good value for the money and a good amp for both hc and cd-but in several places-I was being told to spend the extra and go for the 7200-but I didn't as HC was my priority.
I don't know about pl2
But I can tell you-The sound I have now right from the Tiger roar at the start of a movie to the end is truly Awesome :) and thats on Dolby Surround and DTS as opposed to prologic-the surround speakers have jumped to life like never before :) :) :)

Just bought a Denon AVR-1802, after comparing with the Yamaha 620. Very pleased with it. PL2 works very well with 2 channel music and the 2 channel rears are nearly as good as dolby digital.
If you listen to lots of 2 channel stuff then PL2 is a must and a great leap over PL.
Also I found the Denon amp to be a bit sweeter than the Yamaha with music. Most amps can produce a good "thump" for films, but when it comes to music you can tell the difference between a good amp and a great amp!

I received my Marantz 7200 yesterday. Very pleased with it. The Marantz amps look lovely. The performance in Stereo is instantly a massive improvement over previous AV amps i've had.

I've also had a listen to the 4200, sounded very good. Remember the 5200 is only a little more and has 6.1 capability - worth bearing in mind for later on.

Can you explain the importance of the 6.1 input? And does that mean the amp actually has 6 channels of amplification on board?

the 6.1 is for DD EX and DTS ES Matrix channels. Basically you get a rear speaker channel, which works like the old pro logic rears and extracts info from the left rear and right rear on encoded software.

The Marantz 5200 has the extra channel on board, some amps require you to buy a separate power amp.

Stocks are low at mo, Empire Direct were doing it at £350 odd and i'm sure Justin will do you a special price when he gets some in. (retail on it is £400)
