My wife's recently bought LG 4710 (hacked) is poorly - it has just played Shrek (Region 1) up until the last 20 mins and then the picture broke up and the machine froze. Last week it played Battle Royale (Region 3) until last 15 mins and the picture then broke up. It seems to play Buffy the Vampire Slapper (Region 2) all night long - any suggestions gratefully received (especially sensible ones).

It sounds like a faulty player. The LG players have very few problem discs (much fewer than other budget brands).

Try contacting LG's service department. They are supposed to be very good.

I have a 4710...

Shrek disc 1 (R1) causes a problem in my player. The disc freezes after the Dreamworks logo and refuses to go any further. I can get around the problem by skipping to the next chapter whilst the logo is playing, it seems that 50% of the time this action will take me to the menu, the rest of the time the disc just freezes. I haven't watched the movie on disc 1 as it is full-frame. Disc 2 doesn't cause any problems for me, the film plays flawlessly.

Does your player break up at exactly the same point? Is it immediately after the layer change? If so, it could be that the second layer of the disc is faulty. Or possibly that the player itself is unable to focus on the second layer correctly....

Just an idea...

thanks for the replies gents:

Simes - not sure I can complain really cos the machine isn't supposed to play Region 1 & 3 is it?. It's a hacked machine and it seems to play Region 2 ok.

Andrew_Lee - The disk seem to go ape towards the end - Shrek plays fine in my other machine (sony735). I'll try some other Region 1 disks - the machine is only amonth old so it can't be worn out!!!

Just because it is sold as a R2 machine doesn't mean it was not built to handle multi-region. If it is hackable, then it should easily handle multiregion discs!

I agree John 316 but legally where do I stand if I take the machine back - it's sold as Region 2 and I've hacked it !! If it doesn't play Region 1 can I get my money back?
