Just to let everyone know, Face/Off has been re-released uncut on R4 & can be picked for around £11.50.
It is indeed, and if you try www.devoted.com.au and select their £3.50 shipping option (which is fine) it works out at around £9.70!

Isnt there a high chance it will arrive a shaker if sent in an unpadded envolope ?.
Actually you can go for the £3.60 option and they'll place the disk inside a sleeve so no worries about scratched disks....

Is it definitely uncut?

Had more trouble with DVD Box Office and they use padded jiffy bags. Oh, and just to clear something up, I think sampath meant $3.60 AUD for shipping in a sleeve.

Yeah, like the sort of thing hardware driver CDs come in - white paper sleeve with a transparent 'window'. They unseal the DVD, put the disk in a sleeve and put it back in the case. Worked fine for me on the two occassions I ordered from them, and one was a 2-disk set as well (Hannibal).
cheers for this Jimmyboy - sort of sucks that I reckon its worth replacing my r2 spec ed for a lousy 7 seconds, but a mans got to do.....

I was thinking about ordreing but then I remembered something about an aussie supplier requesting photocopies of personal information from new international customers.
I can't remember which supplier it is though.

That's EzyDVD - someone posted in the supplier forum about it the other day.

Err....where did you hear that from? I've heard rumours of a special edition so many times that I just take them with a pinch of salt now!

Well, the R1 Face/Off was one of the very first discs I bought, and it's now one of the only bare-bones (i.e. + trailer) discs in my collection. Why do I still have it? It's un-cut, has a decent transfer and a damn good 5.1 track. I can't understand why more people haven't bought the R1 already!

Because I couldnt find the R1 available anywhere for less than £14. and I aint paying that for an old disc with no extra features. Especially as there was always going to be a re-release at some point.

Apparently Criterion are trying to get a Special Edition together, the question is - can you wait long enough?

That would be sweet... Then it could go out of print & everyone here could get rich by flogging them on eBay :D
Seriously though, that would be a good thing :)
(I'll probably get flamed for this, so flame-proof jacket at the ready.... :D )
I think it would be better if Buena Vista did an SE instead (it's not as if they can't) rather than Criterion. That way we can get hold of it without having to spend £20+ on it. I know that Criterion's overheads are higher etc which is why they're expensive, but my card bill doesn't take that into account... :(

I would absolutely love to see a Criterion version of the film, complete with commentary by Woo, Cage, Travolta etc, the usual background/historical documentaries, and, if we were really, really lucky, Les Yeux Sans Visage on a second disc, which is vaguely similar...However, given that Paramount own the US rights to the film, such treatment looks unlikely.

Vaguely? Can't find the spoiler thing so wont go into detail, but there's no real correlation between the two films.
You might be better off packaging Face/Off with 'Big' starring Tom Hanks which has more in common.

I go with every reason you have but also cos I'm not really a commentary type listening person, which criterion seems to be good at.

But alongside deleted scenes, commentaries are the best extras! If Criterion get it, I am hoping for a DTS track like The Rock got, Lots of good docs and that commentary from Travolta, Cage and Woo! That would be worth £25 odd of anyone's cash!
That and Criterion returning to Hard Boiled but there is no chance of that! :D :D

I'd rather pay £9 and have the film than pay over double that for a 30-minute doc and a commentary.

Im sorry I dont buy all this criterion crap - they are ludicrously over priced. If Hong Kong Legends can digitally remaster a 70's HK flick to amazing quality, supply all the REVELANT and interesting extras they do and CONSISTANTLY record arguably the best commentaries of any film and all for the price of a regular DVD, forgetting the fact that are often appearing in sales and can be had for 1/2 price, it shows up criterion for the rip off merchants they are. I dont own any criterions todate (although have borrowed a couple from mates) nor do I ever intend to unless they come my way at a reasonable price. I acknowledge that Criterion release some of the most comprehensive DVD packages available but just not a justifiable price To top it all off, many of the films in the Criterion range are very poor, imo, although this is due to the diversity of the genres unlike with HKL of course.
I cant wait for the HKL release of The Killer - they will show Criterion how its done and you may be able to buy it for less than £100 too!!

I believe John Woo was originally going to do a commentary but Paramount didn't want it for some reason
But there's is supposed to be a special edition out next year, read it on some web site, might have been either the Digital Bits or DVD File!
ordered about 10 days ago from devoted and never had to wait more than 24 hours before.....am i missing something or was this disc released 3 weeks ago?
I'm confused. What is the point of going half way around the world to buy a DVD thats freely available in this country? Why don't people just buy the region 2 version? You can get it almost anywhere for under £10.
I'm sure there's a reason. It's just that I don't get it!

Small correction: The BRITISH version is cut. All other European R2 versions are uncut! And the Australian DVD is dually encoded for Regions 2+4. (AFAIK it is identical with the German version.)
R2 is more than just Great Britain, folks!
