View Full Version : Spinal Tap
It's probably been asked a hundred times before, but, seeing as the Search thingy ain't working, i'll ask again.
What's the difference between the Criterion and the SE?
Ta in advance :)
The Criterion version is out of print, and has two commentaries.
The SE only has one commentary, but it is very funny.
I think the SE has all the other extras from the Criterion version.
Doesn't the Crit have a different hour of deleted scenes?
apparently it has some diff deleted scenes (only a few of them).
I would def. go for the R2 - commentary is hilirious, its done in their characters. The deleted scenes (65 mins) are like another film.
Also finding it will take time and cost more £.
Also the picture on the latest one is reportedly better.

whys that ? was it LE or something ?
EDIT: just read it again and relaising you're comparing to Criterion :)
Yes make sure its the Special Edition - 2 disks, not the orig R2 release, 1 disk, no extras (theres a few on ebay - be careful)
£14.99 - Play 247.com (all inc.)
check Tesco.co.uk as they have a VAT free week (remember you have to pay £1.75 postage) - sorry cant tesco site is very busy.

The Criterion Spinal Tap has two (serious) commentaries and the original mockumentary Spinal Tap: The Final Tour, but loses an anamorphic transfer and 5.1 sound.
The MGM SE is a must buy at c. 12 quid (from R4). The Criterion (sometimes at upwards of 100 pounds on Ebay) is arguably not worth it unless you are a true devotee.

I would have thought that the 2-disc R4 was identical to the 2-disc R2, too...
mmm i would say so, R4 hadn't come into it when i posted that!
