THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Anyway, I saw Rock Star (starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston) on Friday as part of the BFFS Student Group conference. Wahlberg plays the lead singer in a tribute band to fictional 80's rock group Steel Dragons. After a fight on stage with one of the guitarists, Wahlberg is dropped from the band for taking it all too seriously and for not wanting to write his own material. Aniston plays his girlfriend and manager of the tribute band. She stands by Wahlberg when he is kicked out.
Suffice to say that the lead singer of the real Steel Dragons leaves the band, and Wahlberg is invited to join the band as his replacement.
Plot wise, not much happens. Once Wahlberg joins the band, most of the plot is done and dusted, and we get into a long piece about the excesses of 80's rock groups and their lifestyles etc. their is a subplot involving Aniston which keeps the tension going towards the end of the film. Despite a slightly disappointing ending and a some what indulgant middle section, Rock Star is an enjoyable flick. It certainly isn't superb, but it so easily could have been a lot worse. A good going out with a group of mates film.
