Hi there

I was hoping for some help. My neighbours are having problems connecting to the internet. When you click connect you can hear the dial tone but it wont dial the number. I had a nose at their detais and everything seems to be ok. Theyve replaced the internal modem and it still wont dial the number to connect.

Any ideas?

Much appreciated

What does the dialup box display when it fails to dial?

I've had problems with modems refusing to dialup because they fail to find a valid dial tone when there's voice mail waiting - it changes the tone slightly. I fixed that by disabling the 'wait for dial tone' in the config.

yup, any sort of interupted dial tone will stop it dialling, or if its set to pulse instead of tone.

Im not sure what it says. I dont think it was giving an error message. You could hear the dial tone thru their speakers and perhaps a dotty noise to straight to the dial tone again.. Thank you both. Anyone else with ideas? I will tell them about all your offers of help

thank you

Why not try dialing a number using Hyperterminal to see if it's the modem or the internet config. Also Hyperterminal should display the modem response which would make it easier to diagnose the problem.
