I just put on The Prom and the picture and sound breaks up all the way through. I've played it before and had no problems. Tested other discs and they work fine. The disc also works fine in my friends DVD Rom. HELP!!! Any idea on what the problem is? My life will be over if you guys can't help me. :( :( :(

Edit: It's now totally frozen.

Edit: The whole disc is ****** up. :( :(

Is the disc scratched/scuffed? Do the other discs work OK in your player?

Yeah, it's totally scratched (due to Fox's great new packaging!!) but the others are too and they work fine.

Looks like a faulty disk as the disk has progressively got worse. Sounds to me like a replacement disc is in order.

Different drives have different tolerances for faulty/scratched discs.

Okay, I've just put on Disc 3: Amends and the lips synching and lip movements (or whatever you call them) are totally off.

Out of interest, how many people's S3 discs have been scratched by the packaging, despite Fox's "improvements"? I have already had one e-mail about this, if the problems are widespread enough I will do a feature for DVD Times.

Try restarting your DVD player - i.e. pull the plug.

hmmm, that worked but the problem did get worse progressively so we'll see...

Mine are starting to scratch so have resorted to putting them in cd envelopes before putting them back in the book. Also does anybody else think the white material stuck to the back of the disc pockets look shoddy and a right bodge?

Hello.

My DVDs are getting caught on the top of the white stuff and so it's peeling away. Doesn't work at all.

Oh, unplugging it seemed to have worked. Amends is fine now and Disc 6 is working with no problems. Darn by dizzy blonde mind. Thank you!!!

Hello Baps.

Try a non-Buffy disc in your player first just to check it's not a player problem.

how in gods name can you scratch the disks when the packaging has all the sharp edges of a ball of cotton wool !!?

mine dont have any scratches and play fine, it might be your dvd player tho cos my old sammy refused to play my xfiles dvds

What player do you have?

If it's something like a Samsung 709, they are not great and are succeptible to discs that are lightly scratched, or even discs that you looked at the wrong way while placing them in the drawer.

I've said this 100 times before in these forums - light scratching shouldn't affect a good DVD player because the MPEG-2 algorithm has forward error correction.

Is your player overheating (eg have you been watching loads of Buffy back to back)? Try switching it off for a while.

If it's still arsed up, take it back to the shop you got it from for a replacement...

It's a Pioneer-530. Haven't had any problems before. I'd had it on for about 1hr 30mins before it started playing up. I'm gonna see how it is tomorrow.

Hi Carrott girl - Did your Pioneer 530 play the 1st episode on disc 6 Buffy S2 okay? @9m22s my Pioneer 444 picture freezes & audio continues. I have another thread open re the Pioneers listing Buffy S2 as a problem, & many others have noticed it to.

Oh, disk 1 S3 Buffy was scratched when i took mine out, but somehow managed to get the others out w/o much problem - never going back in the packaging thou - Using a CD Holder.

Only on disk 2 of S3.

Half my Buffy S3 discs are lightly scratched, but as the scratches don't seem to be getting any worse I'm 5 by 5. :)

Disc 6 works fine now. Haven't tried Disc 3 yet. Could it have anything to do with me playing VCDs and CDRs before watching a DVD? Probably not, but I have no knowledge at all on it so... Anyways, it works now so I'm going to keep a close eye on it.

I think that it's my player as I was watching a VCD 10mins ago and the pic broke up. I hadn't used it since this morning so I doubt that it had overheated. :( :( :(

Could be the laser. my dvd player's laser started to go and caused those problems before it didn't work at all! Pain in the butt i know! :(

I reserve the right to feel somewhat smug at foreseeing all these problems (i.e. not trusting Fox's assurances that all the problems had been solved for a friggin minute after last time's debacle!) and waiting the extra two weeks for the Region 4 discs. You know, the one's in proper cases, £10 cheaper, uncut ... those ones ...;) :D *Duly apologises to Baps for not being another willing customer for his prolific armaray pimping*

im so jealous.

Byron

A whole 8 (yes you heard that right, *8*!) seconds more actually! Bet you’re just, like, so insanely jealous! ;) Though the proper cases and low price were, just perhaps, also a somewhat considerable incentive …:D

I read somewhere that the R4's don't have all the "Previously on Buffy" bits in though, while the R2 does... so all in all more snipping on R4!

[B]

There are apparently 10 in total on the R4 package (2 in the first boxset, 8 in the second) -- out of interest, how many are on the R2?

Yep, knew this before purchase, but as a) there's likely only ten in the seires b) even if there's more, I couldn't give a damn about them anyhow as I bloody well *know* what's happened previously, this isn't an issue for me. :)

Have just checked my R2 set and theres only 10 there as well, and with the episodes that they are on it looks about right.

Time for someone to drop DVDnet and DVDtimes some e-mails then -- because they're both reporting Fox have missed off some of the episode previews from the epps. So if there's any reason left why the R4 release isn't the clear best, I'd love to see it!

Now that's good news! I've got the R4 on order so am glad there isn't any bad points to it, and uncut too! Not that I'm really bothered if the "previously" bits were missing.

Now just to wait until December for it (ordered with angel to be delivered together :( )

But for about £48 can't complain

Fixed. I based my article on the DVDnet review. I had my suspicions about the missing sections - I should have checked my taped versions.

Bear in mind I haven't actually checked... it just looks like they have them in the right eps if that makes any sense...

Well let's hope it's right - otherwise I'm going to look more silly than usual ;).

I should really check the episodes myself...
