So I did it, I went out and splashed out on a PS2 (well it's a Christmas present for myself!).

I notice it has an optical out for digital sound but no coax out.

I have a Yamaha RX-V398 amp which has no optical inputs, just composite & coax.

So is it possible for me to somehow connect my PS2 to my amp for 5.1 sound?

Any help would be much apprecietd!

Probably better in the hardware Forum. I know the PS2 is a console but its still a hardware Q at heart.

PS I don't think you're gonna have any luck there mate, unless you get something that'll convert the signals. As I have opticals though its not something I know too much about.

just so as you know composite usually refers to the phono used to carry composite video (the yellow one).

You mean the coaxial cable for digital audio.

I believe there might be some form of optical to coaxial adapters out there, but they're likely to cost a fair bit, so you might be better off with a better amplifier. :(

I agree, this is better off in the Hardware forum. A little help before I move it though, www.cpc.co.uk do an Optical to Coax converter for £14.67 plus VAT (Order Code AV03255) which is probably what you want - incidentally, they also do a Coax to Optical for 12.61 + VAT (Order Code AV03254). Might be worth a look :)

Moving..

Thanks Minty!

And yeah and optical to coax converter would rock! I'll check it out!

Awesome, thanks!

Thanks for the avice so far guys.

I think at the moment a new amp is beyond my budget (I've still got to pay for the PS2! :)) but an optical to coax converter would be ideal.

Hasd anyone used them at all? Are they okay?

<b>BrynJ</b>, I tried your lik but their catalogue seems to be offline at the mo.

<b>not sure</b>, I'll check out KEEN, I havent heard of them before but I'll see if they can help!

Thanks for all your help so far chaps! ;)

Mark - the best thing with CPC is to call them up, you can then open a cash account and they'll send you a lurvely 2500 page catalogue :)

Oh, BTW, you'll need to order over £30 (excluding VAT) to qualify for free delivery - but if you get the catalogue first, there's sure to be a couple of things you need ;) :D
