View Full Version : Which is best - component or SCART?
I just bought a new TV today, a 32" widescreen TV with 3 SCART sockets and component video connections. It says only SCART socket 1 is RGB SCART compatible. So which connection would give me the better picture? Component to Component, Component to SCART, or SCART to SCART?
Any advice would be much appreciated. I am asking this because I don't have any component leads and wondered if I should go out and buy some.

Component to component would give the best pic, closely followed by RGB scart, but I shouldn't think there'd be a great deal in it, tbh.
If you have any other kit that would need the RGB socket like a digibox, then use the component for DVD - otherwise I wouldn't bother.
If your DVD player has component outs then i would use that (component - component), as it is at least as good as RGB. That way also leaves your RGB scart free for another component.
Component-component definitely.
Thanks for the advice - all going one way at the moment. I just got off the phone from a guy at Richer Sounds who said if I used component to component that some Region 1 discs might come out black & white. Is that true?

I very much doubt it on a brand new telly. Unless it's an Alba of course. :p

Tried both component and RGB scart on my Tosh 36ZP. Difference was
very very slight. Both give a great picture but you don't get
widescreen signalling with component or auto switching. The
component connection is ever so fractionally clearer IMHO but I may
just be imagining it. I went back to RGB scart for the record as I got
fed up resizing and AV4 selecting/deselecting.
