So the English players refused to speak to the press because the nasty people are picking on them. Who do they think they are? I'm sorry but they are paid to speak to the press (notable the captain) There will also be criticism and they are hardly unfairly targetting players (When James was dropped anyway)
The England players seem to have gotten too big for their boots imo...
The trouble with this story is that it is being reported by the Press who are the very people that the English players are in dispute with, so there seams to be a biased view.
The players have stated in there statement that they accept that they are not beyond professional criticism if they have/are played badly, BUT they will not stand for any personal abuse that has been written about them that will affect there families.
For example everybody knows James drooped a major clangor, & even he has said so, but some of the tabloids have gone way over board & have not kept it professional. Just think if you was away & your your children had to read & then but up with some of the personal insults that a paper has printed about you. Would you stand for it?
The other thing I find really annoying is they way they are bashing Beckham.
Ok he has not played as well as he has been in the last few games, but here is a player that in some cases has dragged England to a victory all by him self, & deserves some respect. Ok if he plays badly say so, but dont keep having personal attacks on him & his family if he is not playing well.
Why cant people just accept that England is NOT the best team in the world?
IMO its the press that has got too big for there boots.

I completely agree with the players 100%. The media especially the tabloids need to learn where to draw the line.
Like Sven himself said, they were printing that the World Cup dream was over and making personal insults to certain players after only the first game in the group which we didn't even lose!!

Butcher feels the players have missed a chance to show they can handle the criticism as well as the praise.
He added: "It was a great opportunity to say to the media, including Terry Butcher, 'Thanks very much. You inspired us and we've come back stronger and better'.
"Thanks for slagging us off Terry. It was thanks to you that we beat Poland. You are a hero." :notworthy

my major issue is that its their job to do these press stuff. They have threatened to strike before and kicked off over the Ferdinand thing. They seem to think that they run the game. Yes the Tabloid press are a bunch of ^^&&%% but:
1: Sven said Beckham played well on Saturday. This is clearly rubbish.
2. James has been dodgy for years we all know this. Sven has finally realised now at least.
3. Its seems to be the players who are running the England team.

:( ) after cheering em on all match and being dead chuffed with the result..he was gutted not to hear his "heroes" talk after the match.as has been said they could have shown they are above the tabloids.and they do have an obligation to the fans of the english national team.
I honestly don't see why james is being targeted. He hasn't been THAT bad for England. It just seems to me that the 'calamity james' tag has stuck since his Liverpool days and people (tabloids) seem to be dragging it up again.
I said it in the other thread, out of his 30 caps how many games has he made a mistake which has cost a goal??????? ONCE!! hardly a shocking performer at International level!
The thing is...... papers like the Sun are reporting the opinions of the average pub-going England Supporter, reporting their responses to the action as it happens (Beckham Crap, James is a Donkey etc etc.) The trouble is they run with it and take it FAR too far.

You take the rough with the smooth, they guys get paid obscene amounts of money and put themselves in the public eye.
If they don't like it they should just crawl under a rock.
And as for Beckham, him and his wife are the biggest media whores since Princess Di.

Well said.
James cost Villa the cup a few years ago with a howler - his calamity tag is very justified.. He's not a great keeper at all, his concentration is attrocious. He made 2 or 3 more errors in the match that were lucky not to lead to goals, e.g the shot straight at him, which went through his hands and luckily stuck between his feet? He was a liabilty.
If the number one keeper is England has the nickname Calamity, you know somethings wrong. Robinson should now be first choice.. James should be shown the door.

james is a liabillity plain and simple imho.i watched him for a lot of the time he was at anfield and getting a corner or freekick against us with him in goal was like being given a peno sometimes.im amazed he has had so many clubs as i never thought we would be able to get rid of him.

Does anyone really care? Players dont say anything interesting anyway as they are too thick.
Reminds me of Rugby when Colin Charvis got too big for his boots and wanted paying for press cons.
They told him to get stuffed and rightly so.
