I've got:
DVD Player: AV1 on TV
Digibox: AV2 on TV
Video: routed through digibox as only 2 scarts on TV.

Problem:
Press play on video and
[a] 95% of the time I have to switch digibox off then on again for the video to switch to AV2 and to see a picture etc.
[b] 5% of the time, press play and watch video.

Tried it earlier, and now, I have to put the digibox on standby and leave it on standby in order to get anything from the video. Beforehand, I could always hear the audio from the video, but now nothing - 100% digibox.
Why?
Also, if I were to route the digibox through the video, would the picture quality drop or what?

I have the exact same setup as you and similar problem but have learnt to live with it (after all, why have the digibox on when you are watching video) - i think i have confused your question a little

I assume you have your digibox set to video output (not RGB), if so routing thru the VCR shouldn't degrade the picture too much. If you are using RGB you need to make sure your VCR can loop thorugh the RGB signal from the digibox to the TV (mine can't and I had to keep swapping the scarts when I had a dreamcast) - I think I'm going round in circles here

Also, you can try the AV/TV button on the VCR if it has one

Why not have a look at one of the scart switching boxes from lektropaks then you can have both dvd and digibox outputting best quality rgb into one scart and the second scart socket can take the vcr

Tried it again earlier, and even with the digibox off, I could only get sound. The TV said AV2, yet I had to use my 4th remote for the tv to switch from AV2 to exactly the same channel in order to get the picture. A lot of lead pulling oout etc later, it seems to know what AV2 is now.
I'll look at the suggestions though.

Is it the scart lead? have you tired another?

I've never had a problem with sound and no picture with the same setup.

You will probably find that the scart lead has pulled out of the scart socket slightly, due to the weight of the lead, when this happens the first thing to go is the sound ( the pins aren't making contact anymore), its a very commen problem with scart leads, I check all mine every other weekend to avoid this problem.

Ivj's advice about the switching box is a good idea, & if it was me, thats what I would do.
