Ok i have XP Pro sp2 and just me that uses it, i always get that screen up where you have to click on the user name for it to carry on loading in. Is there anyway you can get it to skip that section?

Also this was a prebuilt machine with XP Home on it and i upgraded to XP Pro, but i get a DOS menu at the start giving me the option of loading XP Home or XP Pro, where does this live and can i get rid of it since i only have the one O/S on there

In answer to Q2, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup & Recovery tab

Select XP Pro then untick both boxes below, or alternatively edit the boot.ini manually

I believe if you set the user password to blank ... ie ... empty, null (not the word blank) and there is only one user, it will log you on automatically...

Give it a go ...

that should work, but if it doesnt- Microsoft Power Toys Tweak UI has a thing to bypass the login screen, even if you have a password set

I just use TweakUI and under the Logon section make sure I'm the only user shown on the 'Welcome Screen', and being the only user I don't login and see the desktop straight away. :)

Get rid of welcome screen with autologon
1. click on "Start" - then click on "Run" - and type
"control userpasswords2"
2. click OK
3. On the Users tab, clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box and click "Apply".
4. A dialog will appear that asks you what user name and password should be used to logon automatically, just click "OK".

Then go to Control Panel / User Accounts, and click “Change the way users log on or off”, and untick both “Use the Welcome Screen” and “Use Fast User Switching”.

Hope this helps
