View Full Version : iTunes and moving files
I currently have my MP3s stored on 2 different drives, and all are imported into iTunes.
I would like to copy all the folders and files into one directory, but this will surely b0rk iTunes, cos it won't know where to find them.
Is there any way, short of re-importing everything that i can move all my MP3s?

moving to computing
bugger sorry thought i was in computing - brain gone to sleep today! :)
On the Mac, you can do the following - it'll probably work on Windows too:
Quit iTunes.
Move the MP3s to their new location.
Find your iTunes Music Library.xml file - make a backup somewhere.
In this folder there should be a iTunes Music Library file (no extension) - make a backup somewhere then delete this.
Open the .xml file in a text editor and do a Search And Replace to correct the path to the files you've moved.
Run iTunes, and it should recreate the Libary, but pointing to the correct files.
May be another way, but I think this should work!
Now there's a plan
shame i'll have to do it for so many files, ah well - shouldn't be too hard I guess :)
EDIT: D'oh i'm stupid - search and replace will take about 10 seconds :)
