Does anyone know why we have been given such soddy treatment again. I don't understand as they are both dreamwork disks.

I think he means:

No DTS track
No 2nd disc
No 4:3 option (a good thing)
Less extra features
Higher price (£22.99)

I think it is because they want to aim it at the family market.

Thanks Craig, that's exactly what I meant.

If they were different distribution houses I could understand but if it is the same distributer that means there has been a conscious decision to produce a lower value package at a higher price (as if we didn't pay enough for an equal package) for regions other than R1.

yeah basically - £15.99 each at Play247

no contest - R1

But if you own a R2 player only (Sony etc, as sold in high st.) then you have no choice.

I have seen worse R2 versions, much worse.

The R2 is not too bad, the only major missing feature is the DTS track. If they were aiming at the family market why lose the 4:3 option. The only problem is the £22.99 RRp, this is taking the ******, there is no excuse for this they are simply ripping us off!!! The US RRP is $26.95 and its 2 discs. Usual RRP in R1 for 1 disc is $29.95. We are being charged more for less product, Dreamworks/Universal must hold British consumers in contempt, to treat us this way. It harks back to when Fox tried to charge £29.99 for Titantic, just because the film is a big hit doesn't mean it should be more expensive on DVD. They could have put the 2-disc version out for this price and still made plenty of profit.

£14.87 in asda, with a free xmas cd (a few tunes from the cast).

R2 that is.

So eventually R2 is cheaper than the R1!!!

Not seen it yet but the karioke(sp?) bit was hilarious on the main menu!
