problems with sony DAVS 550 home cinema system

I bought the sony DAVS 550 system just over a year ago and from yesterday it is not playing DVDs at all ( I tried number of different DVDs and it comes with a error message "cant play disc"). I tried an audio CD and it played without any problems. I tried turning the system off for few hours and retrying but it is still the same. Any suggestions? It is just outside the 1year warranty and so I am not sure whether sony would do anything at all. Thanks for the help in advance.

I tried turning off for 24 hours and it still doesnt work. Does any one know how much it might cost to repair the item as it seems to be the only option. Thanks again
