When I could not find a copy of "DVD Buyer" I bought a copy of, "What Video and Widescreen TV" which was a mistake because it tries to cover to many area’s but within the magazine was a review of a Panasonic DMR-E75V which allows one to transfer material from a VHS to DVD but the write-up was critical saying, “No multi-format DVD or S0VHS recording; no HDMI, i.link or memory card ports; no EMG.”
I have no idea what an “i.link” or an “EMG.” Is so I telephoned a DVD dealer and asked what they thought of the machine. They replied that they did not stock any dual recording/playing machines so I asked them why. The reply was that you would be better of connecting a VHS player up to a DVD recorder but I wonder if that is true.
Seeking further advice I asked someone else and they said they are waiting until a DVD player/recorder comes out with a hard drive which seems to make sense.
My specification is based on the following:
1. I am deaf so I want to be able to buy DVD,s to watch on TV as I am told that they have subtitles which is more than VHS do or if they do one needs another bit of equipment.
2. I have a load of VHS tapes with our children/grandchildren which need editing and moving to DVD as that medium is more flexible.
3. I have a load of black and white photographs and 35m slides that I want to move onto DVD so that I can watch them on a TV rather than wait until a funeral which is about the only time such things normally come out.
4. I use a digital camera and intend to buy a digital Camcorder and I would like to be able to watch the results on a TV through a DVD player.

So, should I go for a dual VJHS/DVD machine and if so which one?
If not a dual machine which DVD player/recorder should I aim for?
