I haven't seen the set myself but JVC have a far better reputation for 50Hz sets than anything else so look carefully for nasty side effects of all that picture processing.

Went to Currys at lunchtime and had a good look at this TV. I'm afraid that I came away disappointed.

The set looks attractive enough, the stand not so attractive, the legs are just a bit too wide IMHO.

The TV was showing the Currys RF feed which is very digitally altered by the DIST processing. I asked if it had progressive scan. No1 assistant didn't have a scooby, so called over No2 assistant. Nope, only the Toshiba has that was the reply. I tried to give her a subtle hint and asked why it has component inputs on the back then? She went away to check and came back with the NO answer again. No offer made to try it out with a DVD player.

She checked the stock. 48 nationwide for England and Scotland, so if I wanted one I'd better buy it quick she said.

It comes with 6 months interest free credit. I asked what discount if I just paid it up front. No chance she said we want you to take out the credit agreement as a lot of people just pay the min payment over 4 years.

I had high hopes for this TV. It may be great through component but I was never shown it. However, the picture quality through the Curry's feed did leave a LOT to be desired and has put me off this TV.

have you seen anything that looks decent via the rf feed in currys?

don't let the above sway you, it is a very good television, especially for the money.

I should find out if it's any good on 11th of September. Ordered it on the never never through the website, takes up to 14 days to process credit, and knowing my luck (and Experian don't seem to like me!), I won't be eligible.
Not TOO bothered if I don't get it, just it's about time to replace my Asda £500 bargain Fidelity 32" widescreen goldfish bowl I got about 5 years ago, and this seems like another bargain. :n0rty:

This tv is definately capable of accepting a progressive signal.

A case of Currys staff living up (or should that be down) to their reputation.

I saw this set up in Currys yesterday, thought it looked good for the price. To be honest the picture was more or less equal to the 36inch Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic. Give ot take.

I noticed it said 75hz rather than 100hz. Maybe this is why it has a better rep for quality.

The 36 inch panny was under £900 as well. in store.

My one arrived on Tuesday afternoon and I had it set up within an hour or so. The dvd picture via component progressive scan is excellent with all the picture gizmo's turned off. I'm not so keen on the freeview picture via rgb but I think that this is because the dvd/component picture is so good and the limitation's of the freeview signal/compression.
Overall I'm very happy with the tv and the huge picture watching dvd's, having used a 28" tv until tuesday.

I'm sure it was a bank holiday special, available here (http://www.tvandvideodirect.com/product.php?xProd=399) for £1075, not so much of a bargain. :(

The deal was a bank holiday special. I used the voucher and they cancelled my order. Cited the reason "Out of Stock". I'm not happy because I could have purchased from a store for 899, and they did have stock.

BROONA, I got my tv last tuesday and am very impressed with the sound and the dvd picture via component, but i'm not so impressed with the freeview picture via rgb. Let me know how you get on when it arrive's.
Tommorow i'm going to change the freeview output to s-video to see if there is an improvement as i'm on nighshift at the moment.

Will do. I'll have Sky, DVD, and Xbox connected, will work out how when it arrives! Very tempted to get the Microsoft High Def AV pack for the Xbox, but then I'm not sure how to connect my soon to be acquired Pioneer 470/575, as I'd like to connect that to component too! My Monster S-Video Xbox cable might still have to be used.

Very tempted to get the Microsoft High Def AV pack for the Xbox, :
I looked into the above and unless you chip your xbox the best resolution that you will get is 575 interlaced. Only other problem is the tv has only 1 component input and I need that for my sony dvd player and don't fancy plugging and unplugging cables all the time.

Xbox came pre-modified from Techtronics, running NTSC. How's the RGB from your DVD player? Might have to live with that, love my Xbox! ;)

The sony is one of those home cinema in a box jobbers without a scart connection. I've got either composite, s-video or component and although I have yet to try the s-video connection on the tv, I suspect that r1 progressive and r2 interlaced will be better than s-video. ;)

As I stated on another forum, won't be able to comment on this set, as I don't think I'll be getting it now. :(

Got a delivery confirmation e-mail from Currys last Saturday, for delivery today. Waited for a phone call from them until 4pm yesterday, didn't get one, so I rang them (Mastercare number on e-mail) - 'The TV's out of stock, you won't be getting a delivery tomorrow'. Great! They gave me Currys number, rang them, and was told they probably won't be getting any more in, and my order will be cancelled! :cuckoo:

Not a happy bunny, partly because they've already taken the deposit for the finance, but mainly due to their ineptness (that a word?), why process the order and give me a delivery date if they've none in stock, then not bother to tell me they've none left??!! :brickwall :brickwall :brickwall

Nightmare broona, did you see my post's on the other forum regarding my problem's with the tv?
The mastercare guy is coming on monday to check it out. It look's like I'm stumped if this one is declared faulty as there now out of stock as you say.
I'll post on monday after the guy has left with the result's of his inspection.
So far I've the following fault's:
1. Light blue smudge's just of centre of the screen which are only visible on a white screen.
2. When i go into freeview text and the text fill's the screen, I get a buzzing from the back of the tv. Also happen's on Qvc which thankfully I don't watch.
3. Still can't get an excellent picture from freeview but I don't watch that much tv and none of the family has mentioned the picture quality.

Colin.

Mastercare guy has just left and the tv needs exchanged for a new one. When the guy phoned into confirm an exchange their computer system was down so i'll get a call later today to confirm. Whats the chances of there being one in stock for me then?
As he was leaving he said that if there was'nt any stock I would have to pick another tv from the shop which I thought was strange as he couldn't tell me if there was stock?

Got something a wee bitty better though : Pio 434 from John Lewis

Sent Currys a nasty e-mail today, see where that gets me! :p
REALLY upset now though, as I'm on the Currys site too, added the JVC to my basket, typed in my postcode, and voila, in stock!!! :cuckoo: Have they any idea what they're doing? :help:

Really, don't start me on Currys!!

I ordered this set a few weeks ago from their website. At first, my (backup) CC company KB'd their request for money, as I don't use that card much. The CC company called me right away to confirm that no fraud was being attempted and told me it'd be best to call Curry's to tell them this : I did.

Being a bank holiday, most staff were off until Tuesday. I was phoned and asked about the CC problems and I explained what had happened, and that if they (Currys) tried to take the cash again they'd get it. He said he'd only phone me back if their was a problem.

A few days later I called them to enquire as to the status of this and was told that they'd cancelled it due to lack of stock.

Next day, my CC was debited with the amount, and apparently the delivery was back on!

They were getting stock into the Cumbernauld depot on 7th Sept.

I have since cancelled and received a full refund to my CC, as I really object to being screwed around.

I will never deal with Currys again as they appear totally inept at dealing with any customer service issues.

After cancelling my order, the distribution centre were on the phone trying to arrange a slot for delivery!!??

So, there are definately JVC 36 inchers in the Curry's warehouse.

Slightly further forward now, been in touch with Currys (I had to ring them again, no sign of them getting in touch with me!), and they're getting a delivery of JVC's today. I've got the direct number for the warehouse, and have to ring them (surprise, surprise!) tomorrow morning to confirm stock and arrange a delivery date.
Not even sure I want it now after all the setup/picture problems most people seem to be having, but it's now come doen to the principle of the thing, I just want to win by getting the TV. And if it's no good, the satisfaction of sending it back for a refund will be worth all the hassle..... :n0rty:

TV came this morning, happy with it so far, except it tries FAR too hard on Sky instead of just displaying a picture, doing all it's processing whotsits!
Pictures fantastic through component on the Xbox, especially in high def!
Forgot I needed a new DVD player 'til I connected mine up to RGB, doesn't seem to output any green!!! Pictures not too bad in non RGB (3rd scart socket), but suspect it will be much better with.
Will keep you posted, have you (nscol) got your replacement yet?

STILL nothing but I'm on nighshift till thursday morning so am in no hurry. Agree about the processing functions trying too hard on the set. It's also a monster to lift into place at 70kg. Will update you when I hear anything.

No problems with it so far (touch wood!), except for Sky looking blocky, but I haven't got the best signal on that. When watching films on the Xbox through component progressive scan, I get a blurred line that starts at the bottom of the screen, and works its way to the top. Takes about a minute, and only ever does it once per film, not sure if it's the TV or the Xbox?

Is it like a single or double line of pixels that works its way up the tv because I get that a well. I thought it was my dvd player. Its almost as if the prog scan is faulty for about 30 seconds. I dont think i've noticed it on interlaced, have you?

It's a double line, noticed it on a couple of Xbox games too. No idea about interlaced, wouldn't know where to start setting the Xbox up any differently to the way it is now! :n0rty:
