View Full Version : Codec for Media Player 9
My Media player 9 (not messed about with or added to since XP installed) appears to need some codecs to play things.
Well, for now, actually mpeg codec.
I guess there are differences as it plays some mpg's I have downloaded (short video clips) but a mpg file I recorded myself of my digi TV card won't play back.
Media player tries to download the codec and fails.
Can someone post here (or email if better) a link where I can get up to date GOOD QUALITY codecs from.
Many thanks

The DigiTV card captures broadcast MPEG files which are different to standard MPEG files (they contain subtitles, EPG data and subtitles etc) which causes undesired effects on players such as Media Player and PowerDVD.
You have 2 options:
1) Either convert the files to DVD compatible MPEG using the "Tools"* menu of the DigiTV software or
2) Download the latest beta version that allows direct recording to DVD compatible MPEG files.
* The "Tools" menu was introduced in the last software update a couple of weeks ago - so if it's missing from your version, update the software.

Actually I was waiting till last night to install my Neblua DigitTV card in my PC as the new beta came out last night. That's the one I'm using.
It's not JUST these mpeg files, it's some others I've downloaded (small video clips)
I need some other codecs for Media Player 9 - Certainly another mpeg codec (for different types of mpeg files) and perhaps one or two other popular one's I'm going to come across on the net.
Anyone please advice the best codecs to get and where.
Either here or email me....
Cheers

Install PowerDVD - that'll give you an MPEG2 codec that WMP can access. Otherwise, you're on your own with Google! ;)

I have looked around and found many places offering a ton of codecs. also people putting together mega codec bundles (not sure how legal that is)
But I don't really need (want) every codec under the sun on my system
(someone said it slows down something)
Will have to keep looking for just the essentials.
By the time you've found the right codec, you'll end up having more than whats on one of those mega code packs (I did anyway).
