All,

Like the thread says - I am looking for a camera which takes high quality pics, and is very good in low light. Should be above 3.2 Mega pixel and CF.

cheers

i've got the canon powershot s1. it's very good. costs just over 300 though. It can take very good low lights pics because of it's image stabilising. Plus it has full manual and a huge zoom. 380mm equiv

Digital Depot have the Casio QV5700 at £199 inc VAT (plus delivery though). I originally bought my QV3500 from them and have since upgraded to the QV5700. It's a 5MP camera, takes CF and has more bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at. I recently took mine on holiday to the Isle of Wight and snapped 610 photos. Erm... what else to say... takes AA batteries so you should never be caught short.

FWIW I paid around £365 for mine in December 2003. Casio's RRP is £500.

I've put a few sample photos at http://www.hunter13.com/qv5700 - caution very big files.

No, I don't work for Casio - I just think that some of their not-so well known cameras offer great value

Get a Panasonic Lumix FX7 if you can stretch to it and can also afford jump to SD. Memory is cheap these days anyway ... the camera is gonna cost about £240 here in Tokyo. This camera has it all ... 2.5" LCD, image stabliser, size, looks, Leica lens.

You won't regret it I'm sure.

I am in UK and not coming to japan anytime soon (I wish) . Importing cameras will definitely put a big hole in pocket not to mention the warranty etc will be void

you'll get a canon ixus430 and a decent cf card for 200-220 notes.

Or the Canon Powershot A80. I'd recommend this or an IXUS depending on how much control you want and how much size is an issue. Both are cracking cameras optically.
