Which one are you going for and WHY?

Bezzant

everquest2.

because swg is broken (keeping my chars). it looks good and is out sooner.

Saber

I will get both, unless I get into a beta for one or both in which case I can see if its poo or good.

WoW, because I trust Blizzard and would never play another SOE MMORPG again.

WoW because I've been playing the beta since April and am well and truly addicted :-)

Same, I'd been looking forward to WoW for quite a while, but EQII looks too damn nice. Just hope I get in the beta :D

I am gonna probably buy EQ2, Sept 10th release date I believe (could be wrong though). Does anyone know if they will have euro specific servers?

I would look, but as I am in work and in an open plan office, the website is a little colourful and I may get the odd frown or two for being a 'slacker' :)

Edit: Sod em...I'll just hover over atl - tab

EQ2 US release is late November, apparently. No idea when us Euro's will get it.

WoW should be better though from a polish and content perspective.

The problem with playing MMO's from the outset is that you are basically paying to beta test the game. I am hoping that Blizzard can buck the trend.

November release scheduled atm, and it looks like we'll get it at the same time with EU servers from launch

Yep looks like November release and you can choose to play on the US or EU servers. www.gameplay.co.uk are selling Everquest 2 with a bonus starters disk that will ship before the game is released. This disk will give you the ability to create your character before the game is released, a pair of Jboots (extra speed) and other pre-order goodies.

Saber
19-08-2004, 21:45
omg free jboots!11111

I wonder if that is free jboots for every character, or only one.

I really wish WOW and EQ2 would hurry up and send me a beta invite!

kippa2k1

Ok this is going to be my EQ Character, better looking than any of the races in swg! :D

World of Warcraft, SOE blew it with me over SWG, also going to try City of Heroes and am keeping a close watch on Dragon Empires

Saber

I gave in, the lure of jboots was too great :)

Pre-ordered EQ2, it just looks soooo sexy.

I've "played" WoW and watched a live stream of someone playing it and it does not seem all that special, hopefully the euro beta invites will be sent out soon so I can make a proper judgement.

After the mess SOE are making of banning thousands of people in SWG, I'm feeling quite content in boycotting SOE MMORPGs :)

The more I see of this game, the more I like the look of it. I really hope SOE get this right. I know most MMO's are bugged to hell at server start, I can accept that. Just hope they don't actually make it worse over time, and they learn from their mistakes in Star Wars Galaxies, and Planetside. (can't comment on the original EQ, never played it)

So Kippa, Saber, is the character generation thing similar to Galaxies?

Guess I shall traul through their beta testing forum at some point and find out the overpowered profession :P

Bezzant
25-08-2004, 00:09

yup, pretty simular in what you can change. quite limiting with overal race appearance though. i only made a couple but for example, couldnt have a fat dark elf or a skinny barbarian

still enough changes possibly to make you look unique- the clothing, i thought looked pretty cool also (alas- in the starter disc is just rags)

Fileplanet are offering a WoW closed "stress test".....very tempted to sign up because the EU beta is taking for ever.

Saber
28-08-2004, 12:20
Ok, two things, I gave in and subscribed to fileplanet for the wow test, hopefully that will start very soon because I want to play.

I also got my real EQ2 character creation cd from gameplay today, I had downloaded it before (but that was only the character creation bit). There are two CDs, lots of cool things on it like trailers, making of, lots of music, wallpapers etc. Looks even better now!

Edit: I would just like to add another OMG :notworthy after seeing another video on the CD, I've not seen these on the internet before so they must be exclusive.

The video that is so drool worthy is about 8 minutes of gameplay footage, and the video on the cd is 1024x768! It is also rather large....so I will try and find a way to lower the res so i can then upload it to my webspace.

bw_megatron

Bah on the WoW Stress Test page it says "only available to north american subscribers"

I've got a fp account too :(

*cough* proxy server *cough* http://www.stayinvisible.com/

Everything you need to know on that page (FAQ) including a list of proxies.

Hopefully Blizzard won't be running an ip check when you log into the game otherwise I think we are screwed.

Managed to convert the EQ2 video, uploading to my webspace now, it will be done in 40 mins.

update: I'm afraid Pipex don't want to give me enough space to upload the video (78mb). So much for that idea, unless someone else knows a place where I can upload it?

Saber
30-08-2004, 20:54
Ok the wow stress test is now open to non fileplanet members, sign up at fileplanet if you want :)

I've created a NIght Elf Hunter called "Gilgorn" on the Sargeras stress beta server if anyone wants to team up. :)

EDIT: Just finished my first six hour session in the World of Warcraft universe and I'm well impressed. The graphics aren't spectacular, but they're quite striking in places and I do quite like the whole visual style of it all. I haven't had any lag yet and with all the graphical settings at the max, it ran at a smooth 60 FPS the whole time. :)

I've mainly been doing the newbie quests, which are all enjoyable enough so far, whilst generally exploring the surrounding area to my start towns.

Saber
03-09-2004, 15:02
WOW has been a bit of a disappointment so far, most of the quests are just collect 6 hides or whatever which means killing 30 bears because they don't drop them often, and there are so many people doing the same quest that it can be hard to find them in the first place.

Rip Curl

Only my first few quests were like that, but I wasn't too concerned as I wanted to get used to the combat system anyway. There have also been some fetch and return missions, but again I wanted to explore the area so it was all good.

WoW also has instanced dungeons and when attacking random MOBs/NPCs they have a "tag" system in place so as soon as you start fighting, it becomes your kill regardless of how many others decide to jump in.

Someone is in the EQ2 beta but I can't say who because that would be against the NDA.

However this person is also annoyed that his cdkey is not working, nor are alot of other people's, this person guesses that someone forgot to turn a database on or something.

Got to lvl 7 now, for a quest I had to got into a mage tower, sadly i got killed very promptly, my soulshard is left in a place very hard to get to (I've been trying for the last 5 hours, died about 10 times.....soooo much exp debt its not funny). I guess tomorrow when most of the world finishes dloading it will be easier to get, soulshards take 3 real life days to regenerate which sucks. I think the main thing annoying me is that there are lots of these invisible (bugged) mobs in the mage tower that you cant target or see, and they will kill you unless you zone, it made it VERY hard to get my shard simply because as we slowly worked our way into the tower, a bugged mob would start whacking us and we have to zone which means starting from the beggining.

At first I thought hmmm, this game is not that fun, and I still think its "ok" but its strangely addicted me as I am only now going to sleep at 7:10AM, thats about 11 hours of playing so something must be wrong

I think tomorrow I may make an evil cleric for freeport. Valour even have their own fountain in Qeynos, the Fountain of Valour.

"AlGhouti - <Talasyn> when is the next large invite into beta?

[SOE]Gallenite - We're just coming off of a pretty big addition of UK, France, and Germany adds, and the next batch will be coming out over the next week, including more additions from those who signed up earlier this year on our website -- if you signed up, make sure your email address is up to date! ;) "

More Beta Invites Next Week!

Means Kryptoz, Galco etc have a chance yet
