Seeing as the website for Rendezvous with Rama states 2004 I think next year is a little optimistic. It's a great story though and I wasn't aware that there were plans to adapt it so thanks for the heads-up on that one, I'll follow the progress with interest. :)

off the top of my head ....
star wars: episode II - attack of the clones
a beautiful mind
the matrix: reloaded
the panic room
the lord of the rings: the two towers
spiderman
vanilla sky
kill bill
the bourne identity
think i've missed a few out there - most likely films that are out this year in the states, but that we're not getting until next year.

The film im looking forward to the most is The Royal Tennenbaums. From the makers of Bottle Rocket and Rushmore, looks amazing from the trailer and with such a good cast.

good point, i'd forgotten about that! definitely on my list. as you say, written by wes anderson and owen wilson again, and featuring owen wilson (and brother luke). plus, with gene hackman, bill murray, ben stiller and gwyneth paltrow also starring hopefully nothing can go wrong.
In addition to some of those mentioned above, I'm also looking forward to Monsters Inc. and the re-make of Ocean's 11.
Matrix 2 won't be out next year cos the cast are dieing one by one atm. I'm looking forward to Harry Potter 2, Highbinders and the new David Fincher film (can't remember the title) as well as most of the above.

Me too, that's The Panic Room (starring Jodie Foster and Forest Whitaker amongst others), as mentioned above, should be out in the U.K. in March.

There is a good list here (http://www.comingsoon.net/2002.php) of films being released in US cinemas in 2002.
Insomnia looks pretty good as well as the films already mentioned on this thread.
Hopefully Wong Kar-Wai will get 2046 finished in time for next year
I Hope to see both John Woo's Windtalkers and Spielberg's Minority Report next year.
And thanks for the heads-up on Rendezvous with Rama - looking forward to that one  (but have to wait til 2004 :( Ah well...)

Rendevous with Rama. WOW! Now that I look forward to. Who's doing it? Hopefully it's a pull no punches version including the background nuclear politics and the traumatic televised first "incident" aboard Rama.
It must be at least 12 years since I read that book and I found it very powerful. Is there a boxset of the complete saga? I never got around to reading the whole thing but i'd love to. :)

Scratch that one off the 2002 list mate - QT isn't starting filming until June/July 2002. So I doubt it will make it to the screen in the US until early 2003 at the earliest - and over here even later!

Two films I'm looking forward to :
Mulholland Drive : A David Lynch film is always a treat and a must see for me.
Road to Perdition : Sam Mendes new film starring Tom Hanks (playing a darker character than usual), Paul Newman, Jude Law and Alfred Molina. It's getting good reports and I'm interested to see what Mendes will do next but a friend of mine is also in this movie and I can't wait to see him on the big screen. I hope he's not cut out of the finished film. :(

Well, if you can't wait until the new year and you live near the Midlands you can catch a preview of Mulholland Drive at the Birmingham Film Festival, details here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30930).

I had a look at this one on the IMDb (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0257044) and the thing that caught my eye was the co-writing credit for Patrick Marber, most famous for his work with Steve Coogan and Chris Morris and more recently for his success as a playwright (Dealer's Choice, Closer, Howard Katz). Really looking forward to this one.

Having read the Graphic novel for this a few years ago i'm having a very hard time imagining Tom Hanks playing the killer. The book has a very large body count mainly delt out by Hank's charecter. Will the public buy Hanks bursting into rooms guns firing Chow Yun Fat style?
Good book BTW.
