Mr Stanton saw a preview of Ghost World last night.
FILM OF THE YEAR!
Loved it, loved it, loved it.
Imagine David Lynch remaking American Pie and that would only go a little wait towards discribing this film.
It's also the best comic book adaptation ever! even though there's not a super hero to be seen. ( Although Thora Birch does don a rubber Cat woman mask. )
Arch says go see it when it opens.
( Judging by the large amount of people who walked out half way through, i think it's gonna be one of those films that's going to be one of those love it or hate it type films. ):)

I had tickets for a preview tonight but I can't make it :( - had to give them away.
..have to make do with my Little Enid doll until the movie opens properly...

i watched this at the filmworks last night and about 10 or so people walked out from it there as well but i did stay to the end
to be honest i thought the film was a bit boring at times but there were also some very thought provoking scenes too
the ending seemed like it was bolted on
there was a black fade out which was quite a few seconds before the final scene, and i did actually think it had finished there
but then enid gets on the bus to nowhere, it looks like they just decided to do that scene at the last minute
i dont think it bears any relation to american pie though at all
it's a lot more serious and grown up and i don't think it's really targeted towards people of my age range anyway

Saw it tonite, the wife hated it, I thought it was OK a bit dull at times. However, Enid http://www.kpburke.20m.com/images/love.gif think I'm in love ;) (don't tell the wife though  )

Nope, that's how the graphic novel ended.
It's not how MY copy of the graphic novel ends! In fact, the whole story of the graphic novel is very different, with the focus being on Enid thinking of moving away to college. Steve Buscemi's character is only in it for one scene, and the ending is quite different, actually skipping forwards in time several years, and featuring Enid coming back to town and seeing her friend through a shop window. "You've grown into a very beautiful young woman." she says, then wanders off past graffitti reading "Ghost World". It's quite touching and sad! I still love the film, though - I agree it's the best adaptation of a comic book ever.

How strange....i'm sure my copy ends the same as the film.
I'll have to have a re-read this weekend.

Woah ! So close to another forum member ! I was at the filmworks preview on Wednesday night too.
I don't know if it was intended .... but I really disliked Thora Birch's character (very similar to her American Beauty role). Childish, ungrateful, extremely selfish and unnecessarily rude to her father. TBH I disliked her that much that I couldn't have give a @@@@ what happened to her at the end .... so it could hardly have been intended.
Too slow, distinctly unfunny, 20 minutes too long and the 'intimate' scene with Steve Buscemi made my stomach turn ! I was praying that it wouldn't have led to that ! ..... although, saying all that, I did loved the guy with the nunchakas (Sp?) LOL !!
Still couldn't believe the amount of people that walked out though .... I've not seen as many do that since 'The Thin Red Line' ! ;)

Well no-one walked out when I saw it today, partly 'cos the lobby was so crowded with people queing for Harry Potter you couldn't open the door!
I've gotta admit I loved it - I'd been anticipating this movie for so long I was a bit worried I might find it a let down - but it was just the opposite. I can't find anything to criticise - the casting, the performances, the direction - the cinematography - the script and even the welcome lack of plot:- I don't know how they could have been improved - not saying it's the perfect movie, just in it's context it's as good as they get.
Making the characters more "likeable" or bolting on a "satisfactory" ending would have done this film no favours at all, and I can't see how anyone can describe this as "slow" - it doesn't even fall into the "thoughtful" category.
I must have seen a different movie to Mr Dawg etc. above 'cos the auditorium I was in was full of people laughing.
And in case Thora Birch happens to read this - I think I'm in love - and I share a birthday with Steve Buscemi - but I'm considerably younger. (3 years counts as considerably doesn't it?)
Well I would have went to see this this evening but Southend Odeon isn't showing it. Just like they didn't show Amellie and all the other non-hollywood / off-centre films that I want to see.
No doubt after it's released on dvd and I've bought it, it'll be shown as a 'Projections' special for one week only.

I had to travel nearly 40 miles to see this. The really annoying thing is that it seems to be impossible to find out any advance cinema schedules, so all I could do was wait until Friday and search on Scoot for a cinema showing "Ghost World", no way of telling whether it might be somewhere better next week. Hopefully "StoryTelling" will get a reasonably wide release...

Saw this earlier today, and so far it is my film of the year !!!
Great performances all round and very, very funny. It's just a shame it's not on in more cinemas - it's hard enough to find a big screen in London showing it, so I dread to think what smaller cities are like.....
If I had one criticism, it would be the ending, but that's only minor.
A very good film, after a VERY average year in movies.
Go and treat yourself.
Hmmmm, saw this last night, although I enjoyed it (Girlfriend hated it), I thought it was at least 20 mins too long.
Full of good ideas, just not propery realised. Shame, as it could have been so much better!
Saw this last night too. My girlfriend was the one who wanted to really see it so i thought i'd give it a try. Can't say i was overly impressed, it was an OK film for me.
I think it'll be the last "teenage angst" film i'm gonna see anyway. At the ripe old age of 31, it just didn't hit the right notes for me. There were quite a few funny bits in it though.
My girlfriend by the way was VERY dissapointed by it.
Each to their own, so the saying goes.... :)
I saw this a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. never read the comic (or heard of it for that matter) but it worked perfectly well on its own.
Very funny, great acting, superb look throughout - agree with jonathan_d about the ending, felt tagged on but didn't really hurt the film.
