I know there are slight differences in cut between r1 and r2. But can anyone confirm which has the better picture quality.

R2, & its not because of the PAL transfer either.

Yes, the picture quality on the R1 version was compromised by squashing the whole movie and extras on to one disc.

So get the R2 version

Thanks for the reply. It the difference considerably noticeable. Also I read somewhere that the r2 was put onto 2 disc as it contained more subtitles and not because of better picture quality. Is there any truth in this.

Yes the difference is noticeable.
Yes the extra subs wouldnt of helped with cramming everything on the 1 disc, but the reason for a 2nd disc on the R2 was because Americans complained about the picture quality of the R1 due to over cramming.

You know, It is possible on occasions that an R2 release is better than the R1. ;)

Well I tell you, I project the R1 onto a 72" grey board, and the picture is slightly soft, but overall excellent.
