;)
i didn't bother with engraving on mine, for the reasons JohnR said.

A lyric from your favourite song?
If you could, I'd get your name in barcode form :dork:

you're all quite hostile to idea arent you, even on a gift. Don't think I'll be 'upgrading' either as its a bit rude to sell my 22nd Bday present on the internet.

Something personal not suggested by people you don't really know?
Indeed. When I got mine it was a referral prize and the company that I got it from put "Henshin a Go Go Baby" on the back which I thinks pretty cool, but you;d only know what it means, if you know what it means.. ;)
I dont think engravings devalue the ipods in anyway, unless you get HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM XXX on it ;)
How about engraving 'This device will be illegal if the USA passes the INDUCE act'? ;)
Enough joking about, here's a website that will let you test a few phrases with a Virtual Engraver (http://www.ipodlaughs.com/ipod/iengraver/). Its really up to you what to put on it, and if I was getting an iPod engraved, I would spend a bit of time and think very carefully what to put on it.
Warranty Invalidated
very good point

Somehow I don't think Apple's engraving service would be very popular if it invalidated their own warranty!

I would have recommended:

or
My way of overcompensating.
(NOTE: I wouldn't actually have recommended these, but I thought they were funny. :D)
Obviously a missed choice so far
