I've had £5 outstanding on my Redoute account for ages - they added a few pence interested every month so I thought they'd be only too happy to let it build and tbh it was out of shere laziness I didn't pay it at the time, as I had no debit or credit card.

However, a couple of weeks ago they sent a 'red print' letter saying I had to pay up - "no problem" I thought. Got on the phone, the girl confirmed my balance and paid they balance off with my debit card.

On Saturday I got another statement through from Redoute - the first listing was "18th July - previous balance - paid". But below this it jumped back to the 10th where it said " 10th July - late payment admin charge - £5".

Ok, I know I should've paid sooner but can they do this when I confirmed with the girl I wanted the balance paid and there was no admin charge at that point? Really wasn't worth dealing with them, get an unbelievable amount of junk mail through from them

You'll have accepted their terms and conditions for fees when you opened the account - despite what the girl told you. I guess you could try complaining, however you were the one ignoring the statements. You may also want to check your credit record - chances are this will show up on there as several months unpaid and won't have done anything to help your "credit worthyness"...

Oops, not good, especially when it's under my mum's name :(

give them a call, i have always found their customer services (both phone and email) to be exceptionally good. if you paid the balance then they will waive the fee, this happened to me once when i paid a few days before the due date but they added a fee because i think they print the statement a few days before

The amount of junk mail from these people was getting rediculous. In the end I sent an email asking to be taken of their mailing list and thankfully haven't received anymore since.

Tell me about it - 4 members of my family are customers and we get at least 2 mailings every week!
