My Sony has about a 2/3 sec delay between me pressing the angle button and the angle actually changing. Is this the norm or do I just have a slow machine??

My Pioneer 737 does the same too.

Probably the norm as it's gonna have to access a different part of the DVD.
my Pioneer 626 and tosh2109 does this too and its a complete @rse in my opinion and yet another reason why they should start adding memory to these DVD players (for the layer change as well).

Couldn’t agree more. I have as well thought that adding memory to DVD players would be a good way of getting rid of the pause at the layer change. My Sony 725 also pauses when I switch angle and the memory could stop this as well.
I wonder if portable players have memory, to stop the disk from skipping.
