View Full Version : Sata drive?
Can you fit a sata drive as a 2nd hdd when the 1st is ide?
Is there any point?
1. You can, just make sure jumper settings are done correctly ie : master -IDE / slave - SATA (for your situation.)
2. There is (it's a bit quicker than IDE and better air-flow due to smaller amount of cable.)

Urmm, as far as I'm aware there are no master/slave settings for SATA drives, you just plug it into header1 or 2 and the system then recognises it as such.
What you need to is ensure that the boot sequence within the BIOS is set so the the IDE drive is at the top of the boot device list, that will ensure that the system will always boot off the IDE drive.
Sata doesnt have jumpers.
yup, i have the same setup (80gb WDse ide\200gb maxtor sata) just plug it in and off ya go. as long as the bios sees the ide disks as boot before the sata disks there is no problem.
not sure if there is a difference in speed. can't say i notice a difference over machines i have built with sata as boot disk.
