As a result of an impending house move, I will have a) a big enough room; and b) sufficient funds to consider buying a basic projector set-up (the joys of selling a house in suburban commuter Kent, and buying a bigger and yet similarly priced house in rural Wiltshire!).
I demo'd the Sim2 HT 200 at Sevenoaks, who are currently offering £1000 off the price plus a free 7' electric screen and 12v trigger (worth about £750). To be honest the picture was better than I was expecting, and I was suitably impressed.
HOWEVER, the system through which Sevenoaks was running the Sim2 was a Tag McClaren DVD, via some kind of progressive scan gizmo (called 'Scan Magic' or something similar - apparently a mere £800 of kit). They were unable to demo my own player (a Pioneer 737), or to demo the picture without the processing gizmo, or via S-Video.
My question is, therefore, can anyone shed any light (no pun intended) on the quality of the picture from this projector, or indeed any similar model, using 'ordinary' component or S-Video. Is it really worth £5k of my money? The thought of watching films on such a large scale is appealing, but the last thing I want is to find that my own set-up looks cack compared to the demo.
Any help much appreciated.
