I recently dug my PSone out of retirement and started playing GT2 again. I am stunned at how good this game is to play, even after all these years. The graphics aren't that bad once you get used to them and the playability puts Sega GT on Xbox to shame.
Anyway, so impressed am I by Gran Tourimso (not since Halo have I been so excited about getting home to play a game) that I am thinking of getting GT3 and a PS2 to play it on (then GT4 etc).
Trouble is I have an XBox and I'm not gonna get rid of that untill the Halo franchise is completely burnt out and having 2 next gen consoles seems a tad extravagent.
So, is it worth getting a PS2 so late in the next gen day? What other PS2 only must have games are there? When is PS3 set for release? Is PS2 likely to see another price drop before xmas?
Ta!
The Gran Turismo series are pretty good. So a PS2 is probably worth it for GT3, and then GT4 later on. Not sure about other games on the PS2 though...Gradius is meant to be a good PS2 exclusive. As for the Playstation 3, I would say that is probably about 18months to 2 years away yet.
Nothing wrong with 2 current consoles though, I have all three...

I had a GC since launch, XBOX for about 6 months and a PS2 for about 2 months and I have more games I love for the PS2 than either of the other 2. Now is a great time to buy a PS2. I have picked up a load of great games for about £5 - £10: devil may cry, gt3, gitaroo man, gregory horror show, r-type final, ICO...
A price drop for Christmas is very, very likely. It will be the last real push Sony will give as next year the PS3 is out*.
Don't you like Project Gotham??
Personally, I'd be putting the cash towards Riddick and Halo 2
*At least, I think so! If not ignore my reply
If you get a PS2 then you get to play GTA: San Andreas and PES4 before they move on to other consoles.

The Project Gothams are ace and second only to the GTs!
With a PS2 AND an Xbox, you get the best of both worlds, the PC big-hitters, Doom 3, FarCry and Half-Life 2 are all coming to the Xbox, along with Halo 2, Burnout 3 on Live etc, and many many titles next year.
PS2 has all the rest, so it's worth hanging onto both.
Yeah, take the plunge! Worth it for GT4, San Andreas and PES4. I have a Cube and a PS2 so don't feel bad!

GT4. Online. Enough said.
yeah I'd buy one, plenty of great exclusives that won't appear on xbox. Would probably hang on till christmas though, I'm sure Sony are due a price cut.

doesn't pes4 come out the same time on XBOX? and the new gta will probably be better on xbox? don't get me wrong i have just bought a PS2 myself, cant wait for GT4, and now have all 3 of the current generation (unless you count the dreamcast which makes 4), can't really comment on how good it is as yet. hope there isn't a price drop :(

PES4 comes out on the X Box shortly after the PS2 release. San Andreas will be exactly the same game but with perhaps slightly better graphics. Nothing worth waiting the months it will be before it comes out though.

but Winning Eleven 8 is out now ;)

GT3 on PS2 is kind of frustrating. The graphics are much cleaner, and higher detailed than GT2, but the progression and car choice doesn't even compare. GT4 should be a return to form, though it has to be said prologue doesn't offer much in the way of expectation.
I have all the GT games to date, I just really wished GT2 was available with GT3's graphics (almost is running Epsxe on a PC with higher res, but not quite).
I only bought my PS2 about three months ago, but it's been a good purchase- especially as a lot of games are budget/pre-owned bargains now.
I'm only keeping my PS2 for GTA: San Andreas and GT4.
