G5 just shut down and fans went mad!!!

My G5 Powermac just went berserk!

The screen was black and the fans just kicked off at high speed and I couldn't access the system at all. The only way to stop the damn thing lifting off was to hold the power button in and hard shutdown.

Is this normal behaviour? It isn't hot in the room at all, seems very odd indeed!

Anyone had the same experience?

Fans only work properly when osx is loaded, if you boot up with just the command line interface then the fan speed controls dont work and the fans will just spin faster and faster.

No idea how long you have to leave it like that before it gets dangerous, but it does get pretty noisy.

So yes, the fans going mental is normal, but the way your G5 got to that stage isnt.
