So the next installment is on Fri 9th at the dvd.starwars.com site. But what i want to know is, is it likely to be streaming?. If it is then it's no good to me on my piddling 56k modem.
I have quicktime 5 but i have no joy whatsoever when it comes to viewing streaming trailers particularly the ones at apple.com (http://www.apple.com). Oh for a life of broadband:rolleyes:

Just get BT Openworld broadband..... and you'll wish you kept your modem!!

Streaming video is really bad at the moment, everyone is complaining and BT is doing nothing as usual. I haven't been able to connect to the starwars.com site at all. DNS lookup failures and packet loss are an everyday occurance.

robby...

Right click on this link (http://starwars.apple.com/ep2/breathing/media/ep2_breathing_m320.mov) and you'll be able to save it to your hard drive.

Yeah, it's 3.6MB, but even that isn't too long on a 56K dialup...

Jefflynne

Thanks but i already have the first one that was out a couple of days ago, i managed to download that one at Dark Horizons, my concern was for this new one out on Friday at the dvd accessible only website. I think Lucasfilm are doing a deal or something with Apple.com and as far as i can tell they only operate streaming video's which are pretty useless to me. Thanks anyway.:D

robby,

if it's like both the "Choices" video already at dvd.starwars.com, and the "Breathing" teaser trailer, then it definitely won't be streaming. in fact, i think the only streaming quicktime movies the official site ever posted were the two different size versions of the 'Duel of the Fates' music video. everything else has been able to be saved to the hard disk.

all you need to do is be patient mate. get the disc in your machine, go to the site with the interactual player, click on the link for the preview and wait - a long time unfortunately, but you'll get there in the end. even if it tries to start playing this isn't the same as streaming. all it is doing is downloading the information same as normal. just wait and in the end you'll have the option to save the movie to your hard disk.

Robby
08-11-2001, 08:36
Excellent, Thanks for that Ben. I didn't know that, i just assumed it was going to be a streaming video (as it did look like that) and left it. I'll be sure to check it out tomorrow.

Cheers:clap:

Hi at least you are lucky enough to have a dvd rom player so you can enter the site to see the trailer. I have bought the Phantom Menace dvd and paid good money for it as a Star wars fan. It is disappointing that you have to have a dvd rom for these extras. Often now when you buy a pc out of a shop they give you a choice of taking a dvd or a cd re writer. My brother says always take the re writer dvd roms are a waste of time. He says that they are not as good as normal dvd players.
I have a normal dvd so there is no need for a pc one too. Anyway if i bought a dvd rom id being watching movies on a small 15" screen with crappy sounding speakers. That kind of defeats the whole purpose of dvd. Watching movies on big screens with incredible sound. I fans have paid the money for the Phantom Menace why should we have to wait till the 16th to get the trailer.

And there was me thinking I could use the above link to watch the trailer without owning the Phantom Menace disc, but it seems not. I get a message saying I don't have permission to access the page.

Hi i thought some of you may like to know that i got info from the board at starwars.com that you can also save the large movie to your har drive. If you right click on the 640 movie and save to your pc. You can watch this from your drive even if you only have quickime 5 and not the pro version.
I have did this and it works. The picture looks great except it seems a little blocky every time each scene fades. Also The movie seems jerky on my player of quicktime 5. Some time the movie jumps along a whole seen for example the scene with Watta is missing as the player jumped past that one. Has anyone else ever has problems with this.

I've just tried this from work and it downloaded fine, so you definitely won't need the DVD to access it.

There's not been much action on the dvd.starwars.com website. I thought they may have put the new trailer up as it is the 9th today. i guess we'll have to wait until the USA wake up.:(

Any body who doesn't have a DVD-ROM drive and wants to watch the first "Choices" Teaser try pasting this:

edited

After the http://

It is so long it causes problems, but if you copy and paste it in two goes (i.e. half each time) and make wure there are no spaces, it does work. Honest! :D

That should let you watch it.

If anyone wants to "upgrade" to QT pro so that you can save etc. try edit

I think we have enough hassle already. Please don't post links to software cracking

Beobrand mate, take out the space before the "1a1a1aaa" part in your link then it will work!

Also, not sure if the mods will be very friendly about the second part of your msg ;) Not entirely legal is it? :D

I already thought of that tho! ;)

Just d/ling the .mov now. Is it different to the "Breathing" trailer?

Shi'tty ISDN is too slow!

I want it now damnit!

not this time i'm afraid. posting a bootleg copy of a trailer recorded in a cinema is one thing, but posting an identical, mint copy straight off the official site is something else entirely.

furthermore, the fact that today's "preview" is intended solely for those who have purchased the dvd makes me even less likely to post it for several reasons:

(1) it has direct commercial value to Lucasfilm Ltd which i would be undermining and they would rightly come down on me like a ton of bricks.

(2) more importantly, those people who have bought the dvd have paid to see this preview and, while i sympathise with those people who have the disc but not the means to view the preview, i don't think anyone who doesn't own the disc should be getting it.

don't get me wrong, i'm a helpful guy (as you've seen), but this just comes down to basic fairness. even if you hate episode I, if you want to see this preview that much then go out and buy the dvd. to that end, i actually disagree with the posting of the link to the Choices video above. and if i were an admin on this forum i'd be concerned about receiving a 'cease & desist' from Lucasfilm.

speaking of which, i'm kind of familiar with those myself! :) in case you guys are interested, i received this on wednesday morning:
Webmaster,
It has come to our attention that your site has posted a copy of the Episode II teaser trailer here:
http://www.benandgrover.com/ep2teaser.asp (http://www.benandgrover.com/episode-ii.asp)

This teaser is Lucasfilm copyright and this posting is against the starwars.com terms of use (http://www.starwars.com/site/copyright.html). Please remove this video from your servers as soon as possible and let me know when you have done so. This will help to avoid a more formal communication in the future.

Thank you for your cooperation.

naturally, i had already removed it on monday night, but still .... :D

Don't worry too much. Just follow my instructions if you want to get it to work, but bear in mind as Ben said, it ISN'T the trailer, just a series of still images with overlaid phrases.

I'm at work too and have brought my DVD in, but none of our machines have DVD drives

Have they uploaded it yet? Anyone seen it?

Gonna take a look on Morpheus and WinMX later on this avo after all the yanks get up!

you'd be better off waiting a couple of extra hours until you get home from work, as you're going to have to sift through all the cr*p 'pretending' to be the new preview.

indeed. but it's all worth it in the end! :)

for anyone who for any reason hasn't seen, or been able to download, monday's teaser yet - or even to help FlangeMonkey get into the mood and pass the time at work (!) - i screengrabbed brand new images from the '640' official version of the trailer, reduced them to 520 to hide most of the digital artefacts, and posted them here (http://www.benandgrover.com/breathing.asp).

Lucasfilm didn't ask me to remove my previous images so i'm 99.9% sure they're cool with this - especially as i've reduced them slightly in size.

i know most of you have seen them before but hopefully .... enjoy! :)

The first thing though, I do not really see as being illegal in any way. Especially if (like me) you have the DVD and don't have a DVD ROM drive. It is only a pre-teaser...

Anyway, sorry. Didn't mean to cause problems, just wanted to help others see it...

but due to the nature of how Lucasfilm are presenting it, it is a commercial product that has a price tag like any other - whether we like it or not. i may want to download it and provide it for you (particularly in your circumstances) but i can't because Lucasfilm would see it as theft, and not just of copyright this time.

furthermore, those links allow people who haven't bought the disc to see the preview and with Lucasfilm being as strict as they are with content on the dvd-only site, the forums could get in a whole lot of trouble. just not worth the risk.

No problems mate.

It was just a freindly warning coz I've been, shall we say, "chastised" by certain forum members and mods for posting links to crack sites, which is after all a breach of the T+Cs.
Personally, I couldn't give a monkey's if people use those sites!

I'm all for it actually, especially if it means more people can get to see the trailers! :D  Making us buy QT5Pro is just taking the **** if you ask me, just so we can see the high quality version of the trailer for one of the most anticipated movies of next year

Anyway, no need for the link (I've already "upgraded" ;))

Ta for now.

that's as may be, but we have to remember that the QT5Pro 'scandal' and the matter of posting links to content from the dvd site are two totally separate issues that shouldn't be confused.

Fiiiinally....... i'm surprised at how quick it's downloading. I have a feeling i'm not going to be able to save this though. Just glimpsing through as it dl, first impressions look good. A lot darker in tone as suggested by the breathing teaser. The actual quality of the picture is really good and i only went for the medium dl option. Was it this film that Jucas decided to film solely in digital or did he do it for Episode 1 as well???.

Oh, yeah and Natalie looks even better, she's right turned into a little sexpot hasn't she???

Normally trailers like these get dumped in your windows temporary internet file folder so havea check there and then copy it across.
