If you ask in any Guitar shop they'll be able to give you more info. Most people opt for a glass slide, but you can also but metal ones that give you a more blue grass type sound. MOst rock guitarists use metal slides. Just ask for a slide and the people in the shop will give you one that fits. There are a few different sizes.

Get yourself a steel guitar for good measure.

If you buy a glass one, try not to drop it. :(

If you've got thin fingers, like me, most slides feel very loose on the finger. One tip is to wrap a wad of tissue around your finger, so that it fits into the slide tighter.

Bit of a hassle if you want to put the slide on in the middle of a song, though :D

Steve Vai - Bad Horsie :D

But yeah, Rory Gallagher's good. All depends what you're into.. slide can be used in any sort of genre, really. Seems to be tied to blues the most though.

There was some geezer on Later w/ jools Holland, a few months back who played a mean slide. He was playing this weird laptop guitar type thing, except it wasn't a regular guitar, playing it as I recall in a blues style, kinda reminded me of Jeff Healy, that blind dude who played a regular guitar (including some slide) sat down with the guitar on his lap.

Anyone remember this and who the guy was?

John Lee Hooker uses a fair amount of slide.
