View Full Version : Sony Receiver problems
I have had a sony 1070 receiver for a while but recently I think it has developed a problem. While watching a DVD, the volume will gradually go up and down which is very annoying. Am I right to assume it is the Receiver, or could it be the cable or DVD player.
If I take it back are currys going to give me a new one, repair it or give me my money back. I don't really want my money back as I got the amp when currys cocked the price up.
Thanks
Rob
This probably wont help. but
i dont have an amp but I do have a Sony DVD player adn I get part of film going quiet on my now and again.
This was dont to a setting on DVD player. Think it was the sound option was set to TV - Wide so I changed it to NORMAL and this got rid of it. try changing some sound settings on your DVD player

RES999 - do you mean the volume creeps up and down or that dialogue is quiet and explosions are ear-damagingly loud?
If it's the former, try unplugging the amp for a while to reset it. If that doesn't fix it then it's knackered.
If it's the latter then that's how it's supposed to be. You could adjust the Dynamic Range attributes in the amp's setup menu to alleviate it somewhat, though. But quiet to loud is just how it's recorded.
Does the display on the 1070 reflect the volume change (ie does it start to say -42, -41, -40 etc) or does it just get louder and quieter. If the latter may want to try re-cabling up the speakers in case it is a slight-short or something?

Nicely put baps!
It slowly creeps up and down while remaining at the same volume. I think the amp is knackered - though I will try all of the ideas posted before wandering off to Currys.
If it is knackered, can I demand a new amp?
cant hurt to ask....
but we are talking about Curry's:(

Is this the same for digital and analog connected units or just digital? The reason I ask is if it is just digital then the amp is likely faulty.
I think it only does it when using digital output as I haven't noticed it while playing on my PS2 or while watching TV.
It looks like I will have to take it back to Currys after all.
Cheers to everyone who has posted.
