"Forrest Gump is certainly a film that is worth seeing just to form one's own opinion, so pay no attention to certain highbrow critics who have let the film's success and alleged championing of the American dream destroy their desire to see it"
Couldnt agree with you more, Raphph. I saw this post and expected another dull, biased and unfounded critism of the movie which seems the norm for certain DVD forums reviewers...
I for one enjoyed the movie, own it on DVD and cant find anything I disagree with in your review. Its not without its faults but its a pretty damn good movie none-the-less.
enjoyed the review, still think the movie stinks.

Hope you're not referring to any DVDTimes reviewers....I loathe the film personally, but I'd never review it, because I simply couldn't do a constructive criticism of it, as I haven't actually managed to watch it all the way through, despite having tried to several times.

Thats exactly who I was refering to as you have just illustrated.
I really don't think most people get this movie. I mean where does all this "American Dream" crap that I keep reading about, come from. FG is a fantasy, nothing more nothing less. All the things that happen to Forrest could never possibly happen to one person. The reviewer in Total DVD claims that the films message is, if you are stupid good things will always happen to you.(???) what like being born with a crippling decease, having your mother prostitute herself so you can get a decent education, being conscripted into the war and watching your best friend get killed, watching the girl you love ruin her life, losing your mother to cancer then watching the woman you love die of Aids. Yeah what a great life. Yet amid all this the film is still able to make me laugh and that to me is a great film.
Forrest Gump is fine (if undemanding) the first time, but after seeing it once I had no desire to see it again. Oddly enough, I also felt this way with the second Zemeckis/Hanks collaboration "Cast Away."
It's also a bit annoying to see Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Rodger Rabbit and even Death Becomes Her get a DVD release, but still no Back to the Future......

'Ringos' have got 'Back To The Future' as a rumoured release in Feb 2002 - fingers crossed!
