When Michael is in the restaurant with the Greek and the cop and they speak Italian there were no subtitles, whearas every other time they speak Italian there are subtitles. what gives? Is my disc faulty or something?

Not seen the DVD but I seem to remember my VHS (!) copy is like this. In fact, I'm sure there were a few scenes with missing subtitling - usually when the dialogue is not too important - I think it is intended to suggest that the two characters have "an understanding".
As far as I'm aware this isn't a disc error. If I recall correctly the old VHS copies I had also omitted subtitles at this point. So I presume this is Coppola's intention. Anyway my girlfriend is half Italian, so she got the jist of what was being said.
I think it's because you should be watching Pacino's performance!!!!!11111 :clap:
You understand what you need to without understanding the language, and anyway -- that scene is little to do with the dialogue.
