View Full Version : Hum on my Sony STR-DB930?

I get this strange humming sound coming from all of my speakers. I've tried all sorts of things like disconnecting almost everything, quick earthing fix etc... But out of desperation the other day, I slapped the top of my amp, and the sound disappeared.

Yesterday the humming was still there, so I pressed different areas of the case, at one point the hum got worse, but then I found a spot that if I gently slapped, the hum disappears. But the fault tends to reappear after some time.

Anybody know what could be causing this? Anything I can try?

Cheers

Maybe it doesn't know the words.

Punce,

When I bought my 930 I had that hum and exchanged it. No problems since then and they didn't attempt to diagnose the problem.

Not very helpful I know but at least you know it wasn't just yours. How long have you had it?

PS - I didn't try slapping it, although I felt like doing it at the time!!!!

Punce - take a look at the 930 review on www.audioreview.com , I think you'll find it's a pretty common problem. :(

I havn't had this problem myself, but remember hearing about it when I bought mine..

I am sure that it was caused by an earth loop or some problem with the earths .

Try removing the cables to the inputs one by one and see if it stops when you pull one of the cables.
