The Legend of Zu

Received this from DDDHouse this morning and have had a good look at the disc.

Pretty much the best disc I have seen from Hong Kong.

Picture is Anamorphic WS and the print used is crystal clear.

Sound in DTS or DD5.1 in Mandarin or Cantonese.

Menus are animated and are beatifully presented - giving Chinese or English language menus.

Extras are above average and the scene access thumbnails are animated.

Will watch the film when I have time but from what I have seen this DVD is on par with most R1 releases on quality.

Good stuff.

Oh BTW - Change the amarray case asap to a better quality one. It sucks

You got your copy damn quick Ono - thats why no one else has it!!

Mine was dispatched on the 3rd, and I got 8 titles so it'll probably take longer than single disc deliveries do :(

From reading the forums. It looks like the Southern contingent get their stuff 1-2 days quicker than us uo north. The quickest DDDhouse to me has been 7 days.

Ono. Is the case, a "LOCKING MECHINISM TM" one or is it the 3 prong, Brackeley style (a black version of the Fulltime Killer case)?

Mine was dispatched on the 2nd.

The case is a 2 prong in the middle thing.

I broke it the middle bit when I took the disc out for the first time.

Lucky I have loads of spare amarrays.

How did you do that? Did you press a screw driver down on it? I think my Love on a Diet has that case, says "LOCKING MECHINISM TM" on the inside. Seems flimsy, as it rattles, but it doesn't seem like it'll unhinge.

Yep. Watched it last night matey.

And I am afraid the news is not good.:(

It's a terrible film. Even by HK standards. The story just does not hang together very well and the action just doesn't excite in the same way as many other similar films bearing in mind the budget.

Ekin Cheng is a pretty wooden actor and Cecilia wasn't much better either!! Their so called chemistry together just did not work.

To top it all off: Zhang Ziyi was covered in dirt and had lots of clothes on!

Poor film. Great Disc.

Decide for yourselves by all means but..............

I just received this with a large selection of other HK movies - not too sure how quickly i'll get round to watching it though (got about a dozen unwatched discs at the mo) after all these *positive* remarks :D

yet again top marks to DDDHouse and of course Jonny, 8 films delivered in 5 days with no customs :)

Yup... have to pretty much agree with the comments....

Watched mine last night... very good disc... poor story...

However.... did have some quite impressive sequences and it has got a rather good surround soundtrack (better than most Hollywood films in a lot of places IMO)

O, yeah... and was it my imagination or were there a few short points in the film where there were no english subs...?

This is correct. I think it was deliberate because the bits not translated were Mumbo Jumbo anyway.

Ahh that'll explain it yet....

It wasn't that noticable.... only a few phrases over the start and a sequence with whitebrow in the valley bit....

I recieved mine today like most others I'd imagine & the disc is quite possibly one of the best R3's available.

Heck of a lot of work has gone into the disc, & even if you found the film confusing (like some people have reported) there's an extra feature explaining the storyline, the cast, their special powers & weapons.

This is one film that will split people 50/50 in the same way SW:TPM does.
I myself really enjoyed it, so much so that I had to view all of the extra features on the disc straight afterwards (something I rarely do).
I can understand the critisms, the action doesnt stop to give time to charactor development, and the plot often unfolds whilst fight & action scenes are taking place.
But on the upside, its non-stop action all the way & looks absolutely stunning (Helped by a fantastic transfer).
It sounds amazing too, and the subs are probably the best available on an R3 disc.
There were no spelling mistakes that I recall, and the English translation always made perfect scenes.

I Liked it, maybe not so much if I'd just payed £20 for it, but for the 8 odd quid its an absolute bargain. The only way the disc will be improved upon is if HKL get their hands on an R2 release, and even then they won't be able to improve on the main feature, only the extras.
...and even if you find the film a little average, the "Mortal Kombat" like scenes will give your Home Cinema a good workout.
:D

I received the disc today and played it this afternoon (was on leave from work.) The film isn't as bad as I'd heard from other reports on here and on the net. The story is confusing and the film just doesn't stop for a breather at all but I was never bored (and I do get restless watching some action films). The acting was OK, but then the principal players seem to be chosen for looks more than ability. The sound seemed to be fine (I have it plugged into my hi-fi but as I can't hear stereo I am in no position to comment.)

What impressed me was the subtitles ; they made sense. I was surprised and delighted. However fans of HK translation will be pleased to hear that the subs on the 18 min documentary and all other English captions on actors profiles etc. live up (or down) to reputation. All in all a excellent disc for around £8.00. If you want the film, buy it at this price, I don't think any western edition will beat it.

Apart from the lack of story i thought the film was pretty damn cool, especially the PHANTOM TROOPERS:D :D Even the name of them is cool
