Hi, a mate in holland is building my new PC, but there is a big problem.

Everything boots up as normal, but there is nothing on screen, he tried 3 different G cards, 2 monitors and a PCI G card, but still no picture on screen...so he cant even see the bios settings.

Any ideas? may it be a bad MoBo, manufacturer fault?

Thanks in advance :)

Pretty much sounds that way!

Is it doing any kind of error beeping at all? Actually, does it do its single "everything is happy, here I go" beep?

Could be a dead CPU if nothing at all is happening.

Normally mobo's beep horribly if they detect no graphics card is present. No beep means something a bit more fundamental, hence the dead CPU thought.

Only other thing I can think to try is find the jumper / switch thing which resets the CMOS settings on the motherboard.

Good luck!

Cheers,
A.

If I recall then its the modern version of finding the jumper / switch to reset the CMOS / BIOS.

Check to see if the RAM is seated correctly. Unseated RAM will stop the PC from getting to POST.

If you have onboard video then it might be booting but using that so your graphics card will not get used.

If so then try plugging the monitor into the onboard VGA and reboot, if you get a picture alter the BIOS to use AGP (or PCI) instead.

dont know if this will help but i will try - as allan175 said does it have an onboard video? if it does just get the basics in your system

mother board
processor
ram
hdd
fdd

take all other cards out, if there is a problem with one of the pci / agp slots then sometimes this causes a problem.

hope this helps

ignore it if it doesnt

Is it a P4? If so, has he connected the special power supply plug thing to the processor?

That got me the first time I built my PC. The little 4 pin plug that goes into a socket on the mobo.

I wouldnt do that mate, masked swearing is against t&c's. Edit your post...

Back on topic, i would say that everything has been covered. Personally i would just take everything off, put it back one piece at a time, checking it all works.
