has got to be Bounce starring Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow. Had the misfortune of being dragged to see this by the girlfriend. God what an awful film. To think that crap like this gets a 2 disc set !

If I remember correctly, Braveheart got a 2-disc release and the only extra on disk 2 was a 30-minute documentary.

I know the film comes in at almost 3 hrs but surely a 30 min doc could have been put on disk 1?

The Rock CC - after the months of anticipation the 2nd disc was just cack
The Mummy Returns - got my Dad the R4, possibly the worst 2nd disc i have ever looked through
Shrek R1 - shallow selection of extras and a 4:3 transfer of the film, pointless!

and while not as bad as that lot...

Big Trouble in Little China - mostly boring extras that didn't seem to warrant the extra space...now The Thing, a single disc JCarpenter release contains a 90-minute documentary! thats an extra feature :)

The 16:9 version of Shrek was on Disc 2.

oh cool, thanks for pointing that out :D :brickwall ;)

I did of course know this, i'm just saying its still a crappy 2-disc set with a pointless additional 4:3 transfer thats not even reframed like bugs life...only reason I bought it over the R4 is that the extra features sounded better and the DTS track was an interesting addition - neither proved worthy of the extra cash :(

The doc had to be put on a 2nd disc because it meant degrading the picture to fit it all on 1 disc, like the R1.

Unbreakable what was point in 2 discs when you could fit it on one

There is absolutely no comparison - the Bad Taste Limited Edition.

Disc One contains the (90-minute) film and a trailer.

Disc Two contains a 25-minute documentary.

Yeah the 2-disc romper stomper was completely pointless too. A very crappy docu and interview that could have easily been fitted on 1 disc.

Most 2-disc sets seem a bit pants. I think one of the worst is the DeNiro version of Cape Fear. I found the extras very boring.

I <u>did</u> enjoy the 2-disc Big Trouble in Little China but they could squeeze that on one disc. The technology is there but I guess 2-discs look better than 1.

...and they can raise the price and attract more customers by splattering a sticker on top "2-Disc Set... HOURS of extras!"

Another pointless SERIES of 2-disc editions is the Ultimate Edition line from Universal. All they do is put both Pan & Scan and Widescreen versions on each disc, while the extras are the same as before and fit on one disc, or added a trailer/sneak peek at an upcoming sequel, as with Mummy and American Pie, or giving the treatment to terrible movies like Patch Addams

What about this (http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/2355/id=1nIFC:Vgtss) little gem, with the fullscreen version on one disc, the 1.66:1 version on the other and otherwise no extras worth mentioning... As an added bonus, the case is more or less the size of a VHS (did I get the spelling right?) tape.

Of course, considering the price tag of AU$ 9.95 and how enjoyable the flick is you'd have to be quite the ill-tempered git to even mention it, but it's the damn principle of the thing... (rant... rave...)

(edit)

Hmmmm... Just noticed the price tag these days is AU$ 24.95 for that charming article. Makes me feel so much better about being an ill-tempered whatsit. However, I bought it from EzyDVD for AU$ 9.95, honest!

I have to disagree here, I think the Shrek set has been well thought out with disc one obviously being aimed at kids with all the DVD-ROM extras and the full-screen picture whereas disc two is obviously aimed at adults with the technical features and the anamorphic transfer and DTS sound option. This way, those people who have kids with a DVD equipped PC can leave that disc with the kids and watch the film on the other disc on a decent system. Also, the revoice studio on the first disc is very well put together and quite amusing, certainly the best DVD-ROM feature that I've seen.

I'd have to agree there.

Like someone joked while reviewing the disc, "buy the set, watch it once, then give to a kid you don't wanna be seeing for a few months"

Well I have to disagree with you :D Yes, the set is aimed at both kids and adults, and yes I paid the extra for the R1 expecting a decent array of extra features and the DTS soundtrack - but thats not what I got (apart from the DTS track). Dreamworks have really dropped the ball on this one as Animated films that are given the 2-disc treatment ALWAYS inspire, just look at the Disney releases (as comprehensive as it gets) that give you an indepth look at every part of the animation and film creation process. All the Shrek disc does is give the dreamworks staff an opportunity to knock one off over each other as they tell us how great they all are all the while giving the viewer the most minimal of information. I'm sorry, but the whole set is one big promotional featurette that quite frankly irritates the hell out of me.

All you guys have missed the point of my original post which was the obscenity of giving a 2 disc release to an awful film (Bounce) which doesn't even merit a 1 disc release.

I couldn't give a toss if a set was spread over 1 or 2 discs as long as it is good value!

I don't think there was any need for a 2 dsic version of tarzan as the film is only 85 mins so the extra stuff could've surely been fit on disc 1. Still at £5.85 thru amazon ( bargain forum) I can't complain although I have

Bad Taste LE - 24 minute doc on second disk and thats about it - what a con.
